The object of the game is not goals? it is scoring more goals than your opponent. You take your chances, and restrict theirs... but the better you can create when you have the ball, and the proficiency with which you take these chances determines everything. If goals weren't the most important part of the game, then strikers wouldn't be valued so highly in comparison to any other position. FACT If goals weren't the object of the game, how do you judge who is better every game. THE GOALS. You can't just defend to win games. You can't just keep possession to win games. You CAN just score goals and win games. Simple.

When did I say that scoring goals is not the most important thing in the game? I said the object of the game is not scoring goals as you said but scoring more than your opponent. When did I talk about only keeping possession and all that crap you have written above, you can have above 50% possession and still lose the game, as we have done this season.

I'm not biting Vish. You can attempt to wind up someone else. You know you are arguing a cause that is all the same as mine. If you actually bothered to read the comments I had written, and taken time to understand them, you'd be less inclined to disregard them as

The most basic objective of a game of football is to score as many as you can in an opponents goal. You win, if you do this to a level better than your opposition. Sure, your team is defined by success, which is ultimately the points you accrue and therefore the amount of games in which you scored more than or equal to the opposition. But the simplest description of football is putting the ball in the back of the net. Your argument is irrelevant to this.

I honestly didn't think I'd have to explain it. I can't actually believe I did. But hey, if someone needs it in plain English, happy to help. Who knew my own topic about Rodgers would turn into a basic lesson about basic sports?

Can we now talk about Rodgers?

The 'crap' was only for what you wrote that I said when I never said it.

This is a great thread, i have learned a lot about the game. lol

On a serious note Vish you sound like a politician. jj has made some good points about Rodgers you know the reds manager who this thread is about. then you come in and find something he said totally unrelated to the thread and argue your oppositionn to it. all to avoid agreeing or denying the points of being valid because doing so hurts your point that Rodgers is sh*t.

Umm now onto the poll question. what are the goals for the next year and what is acceptable. I dont think with 20mil in summer many managers if any can get to challenge for title(i think we are a long way off title) and getting CL is goin to be pushing it. I think a Strong 5/6th or weak 6th with a cup would be good enough for another season(season 13/14).

conclusion i think summer 2014 at min. i also think he has the support of managment where i think he will get that.

i still would like to see rodgers improve on his in game tactics they really are not good. he may not have many options but there are better ones than he choices at times.

I am looking forward to a review thread about this season when it is closer to the end. we could easily be in CL spot or a few points off with this championship league ironman team.

overall i think we are headed in the right direction.

I sound like a politician? Don't know what makes you say that. If it is whether BR inproved or not, this was already debated earlier in the thread including the comparison with Mourinho's improvement when he came, same can be said regarding Laudrup and Clark by the way.

The later post was about goals being the object of the game or winning (scoring more than your opponent, therefore, not conceding is as important). For me winning is more important than playing offensive football, some teams choose to play defensive football, usually italian teams, doesn't mean they are not playing well.

For me BR under acheived this season just as KD did last season in the league only, but, the latter overacheived in the cups, all based on results. To over achieve in the league would be to qualify for champions league as I feel that we probably have the 5th or 6th strongest squad of the premiership.
