So Arsenal just leapfrogged Chelsea, and now we are 8 points away from a top 4 finish that will likely not happen. However, we're only 3 points of Everton who have to play spurs this weekend, and should this current trend hold, I see the table finishing

Manu
Manc
Spurs
Arsenal
Chelsea
Liverpool
Everton

Personally, I would call this a satisfactory finish. We'd finish 2 places better than last season, above Everton, and we'd get a Europa spot, provided Chelsea win the FA cup. Spurs finishing top 4 is pretty much inevitable, even with Bale being out for 2 weeks, so they'll be gaining ground, but Arsenal finishing 4th just barely again will only paper over the cracks, and Chelsea would just descend into further chaos if they finished outside the top 4 again. Arsenal and Chelsea would look assailable next year; to me anyway. Chelsea will likely win tomorrow, but they have a tough run of fixtures, and I think they will soon be overtaken by Arsenal completely.

Agree that gap between us and Arsenal and Chelsea can be bridged next year. Thats with the squad we have now. Of course you can add Spurs to that if they lose Bale in the summer.

My worry is that we have been very slow starters in recent years and that is the biggest thing we need to overcome at the start of next season.

Here are the 5 games I think were vital to making this a successful season that we should have won but didn't.

Next to each opponents name below is the month in which we played them and the number of points we gave up. Add those points up (11) and add to the tally we have now (48) which equals 59 and puts us in 3rd!

It's really as simple as winning the matches we should have!

We were very close and I believe we'll jump the hurdle next season.

Aston Villa (December) +3
Arsenal (January) +1
Manchester City (February) +1
West Brom (February) +3
Southampton (March) +3

Listen be honest if spuds get fourth this year then next year we have absolutely no chance of getting near it as with Champs League they'll probably hold on to Bale and strengthen even further, if or if they dont get fourth then with the money Assenal have they gonna strengthen further whether we like it or not, and Chelsea's current squad is miles ahead of ours so lets not even try say we can catch them as they will spend even further in the summer. We have no chance of 4th unless FFP comes in soon which it wont so get used to fighting with nEverton for 5th fella's/

I think Bale is gone, whether spurs get CL or not...and if we were to go by that logic, no new teams would ever break into the top 4. Yet Tottenham did, without a sugar daddy owner, Arsenal have been regular in the CL without a sugar Daddy owner aswell... There is nothing stopping us from making a real push for 4th next season, and had it not been for the 2 times we dropped wins against city and arsenal we would be 4 points better off and challenging for top 4 this season two. We played with a lot of youngsters this season, who have now gained some more experience, we have a manager who now has a bit more experience and more knowledge of his squad, owners who finally seem like they are ready to back BR in the market. The only thing missing at the moment are fans who are ready and willing to give this team the time and support it needs. For some reason, we have been calling for a new manager way too soon lately IMO.

This team really seems to have the hunger that is needed, and Coutinho has made a real impact. His passing and vision have been a great asset in the matches he has played so far and could be the difference between a win and a draw. If we manage to sort out our defence next season, I believe we have a team that can stand toe to toe with anyone in the PL, including the much more expensive City, Chelsea etc...I really do believe we can take any of them...

But from our side Suarez might go and Gerard will be another year older. Rodgers also has to step up to the mark. So there is a lot of concerns and ground for us to make up.

But the biggest loss to LFC will be my fantastic support which has kept the team going for the last 35 years.

Bale will "humm and harr" over it all summer and then start the new campaign with Spurs in August - Brits have this mental block about playing abroad.

Probably make the move to Utd / Citeh / Chelsea for a pay day, if anything.

Don't think this is correct. The FA cup runners-up would get it.
