Here's my question
Henderson downing Enrique at the beginning of the season were almost non entities and were on their way out of this club. Despite the club (but really the fans who pay the money) spending huge money to acquire them.
Then following threats from Rodgers they turn into players who are four times as good as they were months previously. Credit to Rodgers for this.
But what I cannot understand is how this situation can be? Were they deliberately not trying and why? How can a professional athlete earning £50k plus a week have to be motivated in such a way to perform. And how many others are deliberately playing under their optimum right now?
Am I being unfair ? Is there something I am not understanding ? Given we fans are playing through the nose to pay for these buggers I we should expect everyone.of them to apply themselves but questions need to be asked why these three are so dramatically different.

Because they are human,they have flaws,money does not come in to it,no matter how disgracefully high their wages are,they react differently to different scenarios,under Kenny they probably had it to easy,he signed them and they were comfortable, Rodgers has not been so accomadating hence the improvment.

downing has history of needing time to settle
hendo is still crap and will be sold
and enrique has improved but still needs to improve more

the lad isn't anywhere near good enough. improvement was from total waste of space. still crap

Bit harsh there Emp, I think he could well be sold if a decent offer comes in but he has definately started to be more of a positive, that being said his decision making in the final third is very poor.

I think it's easy to hide behind the they are human argument. It certainly suggests under kenny they were coasting and maybe others too which would explain the team being in free fall. But that cannot be totally blamed on kenny these people are professionals and I don't accept the money does not come into it it does fans are being pushed to the limit to pay for these players and not getting the value we should.
Hopefully Rodgers won't take any nonsense,

Essentially,they were taking the [oops] out of the fans,the club,Kenny,yes they are paid to perform but they were getting away with doing fook all,Rodgers has made it clear that it wont happen on his watch.

I don't know these players in person, but just a general opinion is that not all footballers are that bright.
Despite the fact they are all earning stupid money for just kicking a ball all day, they certainly seem to be in need of a person motivating and encouraging them.
I think BR might be a wizard in that department, maybe because he's used to working with such players in the past.
KD has always had that drive within himself so I don't think he knew how to handle persons who were lacking that ability - he simply took it for granted the players would come good - which all didn't do.

I think they needed time to settle even if Enrique was quite good when he arrived last season. This season, with a new manager, it took even longer. Don't know about Hendo before he came because never followed him, but, Downing did look decent at Villa, even gave us a hard time on a couple of occasions. Steeve Clark did say in an interview that the players we bought last year would come good this season, with his performance at WBA, I would listen to what he has to say. These guys (even if they earn tons) don't play for the money, they are passionate about football, in fact, most of them know nothing else. When you are passionate you don't need to be threatened to get motivated I would think.
