I wasn't too keen on either Rodgers or Martinez... didn't think either had the Gravitas for the job.

Not sure if we ever really found out why Martinez didn't get the job. Did he turn us down? If not, why didn't we offer him the role?

In hindsight, what I like(d) about him was that he showed the club respect by making it clear he wanted the job (whereas BR played the 'if you want me you need to come get me' type card). He's also always very respectful in his interviews and he's never shirked away from the annual fight he has at the bottom of the league.

I guess time will tell if we picked the right guy. Maybe it's just a case that both are good, but I'd hate to see Martinez say take the Everton job and do what Moyes has done there and some more whilst we fail to meet expectations.

So one good result this season means Martinez should have been hired? Nice one.

Not at all... just speculating... and wondering why FSG chose BR instead...only because I actually watched the game and they did play well. great goal by jordi gomez.

He was flavour of the minute earlier today, that's all crazy

I like the wAy he gets his teams suing. He set the foundations at Swansea for Rodgers and now Laudrup. I think he would have done ok here. Still think the incosinstancies would have still been there though.

i think he will be a top coach in a top team..keeping wigan i n the prem each year whilst losing his best players each year is quite remarkable.

he turned us down anyway. which shows a real quality.

Did he turn us down or is Whelan just spinning a yarn. But I agree. He will come good at a bigger club.

that part of my opening post seems to have been forgotten. do we know for sure exactly what hppened? we claimed we didn't offer him the post. I must say, I felt embarrassed at the way FSG appeared to treat him.

i'd be more inclined to believe martinez than fsg and he says he turned us down.

if u look at the way it went down it looks that way to. fsg courted him big time. now maybe they asked rogers first and he turned them down too, at first.
