Rafa Benitez Wants To Take Samuel Eto'o To Liverpool - Report Liverpool want the Cameroon star and could be prepared to make an offer this summer if Barça look to sell, rather than wait and see if they can land him for free in 2010.
Rafa Benitez wants to team Samuel Eto'o up with Fernando Torres in a front partnership that he believes will lead Liverpool to glory next season, according to a report.
The Spanish manager has had the Cameroonian international in his sights for some time and now he is ready to step up his interest and discover what the price would be, El Mundo Deportivo state.
Eto'o and Barcelona are set for talks in the summer about whether to renew the striker's contract, with the club having to decide if they want him to stay or if they should cash in.
With the 28-year-old's current deal at Camp Nou due to expire in 2010, the Blaugrana are believed to be tempted to sell this summer and make an approach for David Villa.
In a recent interview with Sportsweek, Eto'o stirred things up by stating that "I have alredy made my decision, but I cannot say what it is for now".
Benitez is keen to celebrate his new deal at Anfield by signing more star names, rather than just adding to the depth of his squad with second tier players.
AC Milan and Inter have also been linked with Eto'o, but the Reds could afford to pay him more and the attraction of teaming up with Torres could be something that sways his decision.
Goal.com, seems sill season has arrived when we'll be linked to hundreds of players.
Not sure about this one myself, not sure Eto has a Rafa kinda personality.

I wanted him before we got torress, thanks god we got torress.
If we want sit at the table with the big clubs, we should then look to guys like Sergio Augerro or David Villa, the cream of the strikers. Its time we start moving away from the bargain scandinavian players and guys like Degen and Voronin.
Rafa surely has soemthing up his sleeve, he wouldnt let keane go without having a plan for a replacement. Im sur ehe has something up his sleeve. I also dont think Agger will stay on. We need clean out many cobwebs in teh academy and then buy good quality. This Kerrison sounds good, but will we be able to afford him is another issue.

Eto - I agree with you Simon777, he's not Rafa's kind of personality. Getting on a bit too.

I'm all prepped and ready for the transfer talk this summer.
Getting linked to people we aren't going to sign helps us negotiate better deals elswhere - I love it.
Think this one is bullsh*t.... but stranger things have happened.
Love that 28 is "getting on a bit". Isn't 28 to 31 the prime for players?
Look at Gary Mac... always a legend for scoring a derby winner at 73 years young. I'd love to kiss his head. :-)

I think they just cut and pasted an old article from 4 years ago and changed the dates. No way Rafa will get Eto. Bad attitude.

Not an Eto'o fan...can stay where he is and would be shattered if we spent anything on him!

etoo is an awesome player. i would be delighted if we got him. his pace and power would suit the premier league. 1 year on his contract, maybe a knockdown price. not a rafa player though

I believe that this link is genuine. Eto'o is an experienced striker, he has the pace, skills, strength to deal with the Premiership from Day one. he plays with Barcelona on the wings or upfront, depending on who's playing.
If we can buy him, then we should go for it, especially that 12m is not a huge amount these days. I don't believe in a "Rafa player" category, but I do believe that he is class.
If we can buy him, then Rafa must be wise in using him. Torres gets injured a lot, especially the recurring hamstring problem. Therefore, Torres and Eto'o can rotate for the striker position, or might be deployed to play in a striking partnership, with a third winger (possibly Kuyt or Riera) who can drop deap and defend when needed. so its 433 in attack, 442 while defending.
Remember, Eto'o was Rafa's first choice, but he went in for Torres at the right time.

It's been a long time between then and now and I don't think he has been setting the world on fire since.
