After 50 votes, some interesting observations:
-
only 4% think failing to qualify for the CL should cost BR his job. So either we didn't expect it from the outset or perhaps expectation has been driven out of our minds by poor/inconsistent performances and/or management/ownership propoganda.
- less than half of us believe that failing to improve on last season is necessary for BR to survive. And that's depite it being only Feb and having no other competition to distract us.
- almost 70% believe he should go if we don't finish in the top half. That's as conclusive as it gets in terms of a common viewpoint, but I guess it's an unlikely scenario.
- a surprising 32% think that whatever happens, if we finish say 16th or even get relegated, BR should stay. Interim ConclusionsMost of us would like BR to stay on unless things get really bad, i.e. even if we carry on as we have been and show no further improvement.
We don't have an appetite to chop and change again. Perhaps we're sick of how often it's happened recently; or perhaps we agree (or have swallowed the propoganda?) that 'the squad is poor and it'll take time whoever's in charge'.
Whatever the reason, our expectations have plummetted since sacking Rafa for failing to qualify for the CL despite his proven abilities in previous 5 consecutive seasons, and also since sacking Kenny after he finished 8th, reached two finals and won a trophy in his first full season back.
I suppose the next question would be, what would we expect from BR next season? Would we give him the whole season again or would we have some interim targets in mind that he must achieve in order to keep his job say into the Jan 2014 transfer window?
