This is something i often think about if by some amazing miracle we make 4th spot is our team actually good enough for champions league football.
We all want those European nights like last night but if we play in the champions league we don't want to be embarrassed and knocked out at the first hurdle.
Can anybody see our team face Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletico Madrid and play a decent game fair enough playing tika taka style in the premier league but playing against the team that invented and perfected that style of play i couldn't see it working... at the moment.
Theres no point being in the champions league for just the sake of being there. We want to win.
Maybe the real reason were not in fourth spot is because were not ready for it.

A little bit defeatest there but on the whole you are correct, at present we would struggle but, and it`s a big but, If by some miracle we did make 4th then surely we would bolster the sqaud to be able to cope. Then of course the argument becomes irrelevant.
As for current players not being up to it then yes we certainly have a few. Downing despite being better just insn`t good enough, Shelvey seems to think he`s a much better player than he is and isn`t good or fit enough! and I am pretty sure Suso, Pacheco, Morgan, Coady will ever make it at LFC.

I don't think you need to worry about us getting embarassed in the CL for quite a few years yet!

The whole point of getting 4th isn't just to get into the competition, but to make more money, get more recognition and from there to attract better players. It's then that you can challenge a bit better in it.

if....If.....IF we somehow qualified in the next couple of years, I wouldn't be too upset about being shown up. The extra revenue that the CL generates would go a long way in to making us stronger in the league and in europe the following season.
The gap between 3rd/4th and 1st/2nd is enormous though - look at arsenal....they nearly always get CL football but aren't anywhere near winning the league or doing well in the CL. Constant CL football is nice and will line the pockets of FSG but the only way we will get back on top is under new, extremely wealthy ownership.

I agree with part one of that CarheeX but we don`t need a mega rich owner just a strong scouting sysytem and the correct buying policy, this with the coreect manager should get results.
It`s OK City buying all and sundry but we know that leads to trouble down the line with egos. Unfortunately we don`t have to look any further than UTD to see that buying one top player as season added to those Squad players all moulded correctly get results.
Don`t tell me that on a player by player basis many of their players are better than those at LFC because they are not. Evans, Fletcher,Fabio,Smalling,Jones,Valencia etc..are all OK players but not great but put toether they are almost unbeatable with some added class. That is not out of reach for LFC!!
