I've been thinking recently how nice it would be if there were no contracts in football. In terms of a career, contracts basically only exist in the sports world. I can't think of any job where when you are hired on you are guaranteed x amount of money for the next 5 years (or however long your contract is). In the real world if you don't do your job well and are holding the company back you'll be let go. Imagine if that was the case in football(or any of other sport)?
For example, if a player is under performing, half assing it in training, refuses to play (a la tevez), or doing anything else that would be grounds for termination at a normal job, then they would be essentially fired from the club. I can't help but think if you took away their contracts and just hired them on the terms you and I have with companies (i.e. if you do your job, show a desire to learn, and perform well then you'll have a future here) then things would be better. It would certainly get rid of all the players who just show up for a pay check.
We all know contracts mean f all in terms of loyalty or where a player will be for the next season. All they do is ensure a player will be payed x amount of money no matter what for the length of said contract and I think that's wrong.
