I remember him saying that when he retired he'd spent his days following Liverpool and watching them play. He also said at a later date in his autobiography that he wants to get in to management - he goes in to quite a bit of details as well. Maybe he'll do a bit of punditry whilst gaining his coaching badges just to make ends meet!

I have no doubt that he'll go into coaching and eventually management. He's incredibly knowledgeable about the game, football is his life. Would love to see him managing LFC one day.

Great pic..

I think we should all remember the role Houllier played in turning him into a first team regular and keeping him on the straight and narrow.

Benitez then developed him further from full back to centre half.

Both men should be recognised along with Steve Heighway.

Absolutely, and really good picture that sums up how we all feel i guess.

I'm gutted to see him go, but I understand why.

Absolute and perfect role model that's NEVER been trouble in any shape or form.

Please. Future manager of LFC.

I wonder if the new BT sport channel are employing him as was rumoured a few moths back?

It's essential to get an experienced defender now (well in the summer). Either as a first 11 or as a matured backup option.

Agger is great but it wasn't too long ago that injuries were every other week. Squirtle has had some off form but what happens if either isn't available?

Coates, Kelly, Wisdom, Wilson, etc might work but i'd rather loan them out for experience and development, than risk ruining them with damaged confidence.

exactly, that's the way I see him too, he has provided great service and deserves the utmost recognition. I thought he may of played until he was about 38 or 40 tho even at another Club lower down the leagues due to his fitness and appetite for the game, his decision tho...
