With some newspapers 'speculating' about a possible transfer approach of 100mil. I find myself having a nasty feeling in the ppit of my stomach that if they do offer that much money, our money whoring owners will not think twice to sell our prized asset.

I hope that they won't see the need to do that but feel that they could see this as a chance to reduce the debt even further.

What is also bugging me is that Rafa or who ever the manager is in the summer will probably not see those funds as it will be used for the debt.

Am I being paranoid or is it a real threat?

Torres has said he wouldn't leave the reds for any rivals.
The money citeh have is ridiculous, money can't buy you class.
Torres loves Liverpool and Im sure if he left it would be to go back to Spain

Torres has to want to go and I believe that he isn't motivated by money unlike most of the players City have bought.

It does make me question why I like football though when these sums of money are being touted about when the world is in financial crisis. Its obsene and really is spoiling the game. And no, I wouldn't like it if it was us with all that money, chucking it around.

I think Torres is a brilliant player, but I would take 100million for any player right now provided we could use that money on transfers.
If we had a side which was brimming with talent already it'd be a different story, but the way things are I think we would benefit more from 5 players at 20 million than 1 player worth 100.

I see what you're saying Jock and as they say every player has a price. But if we sold, clubs would know we just got a load of money so £20m players would become £30 - £40m and we'd end up with no one.

He doesn't want to go and we don't need to sell. Its all just paper talk.

i was kinda thinkin that this mornin. not sure if i fully agree, but its definitely a train of thought as long as we could spend the money on transfers.

The chances of us getting the 'full' amount to buy again would be minimal.

Now that I've had time to digest it a bit, it is just paper talk. I hope!

tbh i dont think torres will go, although CL ommission might play a part. that said, we didnt buy torres for 100 mil, or anywhere remotely near it, so what that says to me is, if you are shrewd enough, you can bring in young talent for a fraction of the price that idiots like city are willing pay. i mean how idiotic do you have to be to spend 100mil on any player. The laughing stock of football.
its great to hang onto best players, but then again, if the rest of the team is sh!t, then torres is going to be sh!t (which he kinda has been the last few weeks, although he has been injured). so do we sacrifice one to have a better functioning unit.

A shrewd team would have all of their other targets/deals agreed prior to any deal for Torres.
Can you imagine that we get such an offer and turn it down then Torres gets injured at the WC this summer, putting him out for 6 months, it's a hell of a risk.
That said, I do not think we will receive that offer, I do think it is paper talk.
When there was all the talk of Monster going to Barca for big money I would have taken that as well and brought in a few players in his place,(I had Flamini in mind for that job at the time) we need more good players, the 5-10 million bracket is not getting us the players we need to bridge the gap.
