He looked poor today yes - but he's hardly played any games. Throwing him in against Oldham, who play a very English game, seemed to catch him off-guard. He may not work out in the prem - or not with us - but he's still a good player and could come good. Some of the comments are just so silly!

Coates has played 10 games for us in 18 months (and still scored more than Allen who has played more games and had a good run!). Everyone knows that a run in the team is the only way to see what he can or cannot do. He needs time to develop a partnership with another centre back. If he's doing the business in training then BR needs to rotate him with agger and skrtel so that they can all get used to each other. People are being a bit harsh on him. The reason we failed against Oldham was tactical. It was BR that let us down - it's no good him blaming the players for his own mistakes. That was the most disappointing thing about the game.

Coates would benefit hugely from a loan. Centre backs, particularly those without much pace need to play and learn from games

no way KP. emp is right here. the best approach is to write off players after a few games or, in the case of sturridge, before they've even played. actually lets just write everyone off to avoid disappointment

We cant afford to loan him, our squad is threadbare as it is.

But should not be played close to Robinson at this stage of their careers

Exactly.

At what place in time was it positive for the outcome of a game to play rookies all around the pitch?

You just blend them in 1 by 1 - slowly - not throw them all in at the same time at the deep end and tell them to swim!

But they're all overpaid brats though, which makes it hard to accept. Looking at the financial side of the matter they should be able to cope - at least against cráp teams like Oldham!

i certainly agree, However when you have only 12(i think) senior players and 3 are injured it makes it difficult to avoid batches of 3/4 young players.

Wewere faced with 4 games in ten games againts Oldham,Arsenal, City, Zenit. which games would you put the kids in for? I would suspect most would say the ldham game.
