Shows most of the rumours around Liverpool are the same old crap.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has categorically ruled out a summer swoop for Valencia forward David Silva.

Newspaper reports claimed The Reds boss was ready to break the bank for the Spain international as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of next season.

But the Liverpool manager was quick to dampen fan expectations, stating there was no move in the pipeline for the versatile forward.

Asked whether there was any truth in the press speculation, Benitez told the official club website: "We will not be signing him."

I've posted this on transfer news, but here you go again....

Don't believe a word that comes from Rafa's mouth over the next few months. It will be all about smoke and mirrors. If we declare interest in a player then BOOM, add a couple of million to the price tag, and let the bidding war commence. It's just bad business.

Silva is absolute class. I would argue with anyone on that. He would be my number one priority. Totally agree with what Cinco said. We need players like him to make the difference in the home draws against Stoke/Hull/Man City etc etc.

Of course he's not gonna tell the whole world he wants silva... Keeping a low profile and doing the buisness behind the sceenes is the right way if we dont want to pay huge sums of money, especially as a lot of clubs certainly wants silva in their team..

We'll be fighting for his signature. Barca are interested too. That can't be a bad sign!

Silva is a quality player. Not many available wingers available. Who knows we may not be in the market for a wide man. Rafa is so un-predictible in the transfer market, gives nothing away.

I dont believe in this we couldnt reach an agreement with Valencia for Silva. I just dont think Rafa wants him. Simple as that.

Who would you suggest instead of Silva then, realistically? I'm intrigued as to your thinking!

Im honestly clueless on realistic wingers to be honest with you.

It depends whether Rafa wants another striker in our squad due to selling Keane and not replacing him.

We need something different in the squad, I thought Silva would be a perfect addiction to the squad. But thats not going to happen.

I really hope it does.

Of course Rafa wants him, but if he goes shouting it from the rooftops in come Chelsea and Man City and UUUUPPP goes the price.

The transfer window isn't even open for months yet, i wouldn't be panicking too much at the moment!!

Rafa did want McGeady but General upset him with his signature on here, so he's not gonna sign him anymore just out of spite.
