http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footbal...ite-defeat.html

I posted on another thread how I'd given up on this season and now I've just read this article. Seem that BRs main priority this season is to be prepared with all the reasons why we aren't competetive. It's all very well now but there can really be no excuses next season.

Personally, I do feel that his own lack of experience has contributed. The obsession with 4-3-3 and playing out slowly from the back. If we can switch to 4-4-2 mid game then why can't we start some games like that? i.e. adopt tactics game to game as necessary. And remember how Reina's quick distribution with an accurate, long throw to get an attack going quickly used to be lauded? I think he's not allowed to do that anymore.

Too much talk this season.

BR has signed 4 people in his entire reign. 3 have left this window alone. Then last Summer we lost seasoned pro's like Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy etc...

FSG have got the wage bill down from £125m to £93 million in this year.

Can't really portion too much blame in BR's corner. It's FSG's fault we are in this mess..

BR is alot quicker to change things midgame compared to Hodgson and KK. Yesterday was another example of that. Taking Suso off prior to HT a few weeks ago another.

We need players. And not just 1 or 2. We need like 4 world class players to take us forward.

BR has played it safe so far in terms of his transfer selection. They have all been players he has worked with before.. Not really any risks being taken in terms of going outside his comfort zone.

Outside your comfort zone is where the magic happens.

We have also played 3-5-2 at least once this year. 4-4-2 is an old method hardly any teams play it these days. It's a bit like in the 50's and 60's didn't most teams play 3-2-5?

Formations change with the times and 4-4-2 had it's day in the 80's and 90's you either move with them or get left behind.

agree that FSG take the lion's share of the blame for not knowing what they're doing in terms of Hodgson, Kenny and Commoli. A lot of wasted time and money there.

But BR has to take the blame for his mistakes. We have no choice but to cut him some slack in the hope that he's learning and that in the long term it will pay off. But 2 seasons is more than enough to show significant progress.

We shouln't need 4 world class players to compete with Everton, Spurs, West Brom, Swansea and Arsenal. We've not beatean a single team above us. Probably due to our predictable, slow build up and formation which BR broadcast to the world even before the season started I believe. Everyone knows exactly how to defend against us.

Players that have left weren't contributing anything or were getting on. The shame is that we didn't get any fees for the players that left.

We've not beaten a single team in the top 10 mate wink

BR does need to learn that less is more, Why don't we see Pascoe or other staff doing interviews? It's always either Ayre or BR.

Kuyt always had a knack for getting important goals in important games. He was not replaced.

Maxi less so. But he scored 2 hat-tricks in consecutive games and looks like a goal threat when he did play... Can you honestly say that Sterling is an adequete replacement?

I hope that yesterdays game is a signal of our season to be.. Eg poor in the first half but much better in the second.

If that's an indication of what our season is going to be like then so be it. We do need to start picking up points against teams in the top 10 though... That is a huge concern moving forward.

With Surridge and Suarez linking up well it does look promising. Borini on the bench to come on and make an impact gives us alot more options in that final third moving forward.

BR has to take some responsibility for not beating a team in the top 10. QPR beat chelsea away. Why? They had a gameplan.

Harry hasn't gone in their with a set formation in mind for every game, or at least he hasn't broadcast it to the world. BR did that. Whilst moaning that the squad is not his etc, he tried to make players who were bought for a different style play slow paced, intricate football in a 4-3-3.

BR could've kept Carroll and balanced results with style for his first season. He chose to marginalise and dicard him. BR also didn't need to spend his £15m on Allen at that time. We could've done with more quality in the forward line having lost Maxi, Bellamy and Kuyt. We were lucky that Sterling cam through.

Now, it may not be such a bad thing. It could even have been his remit and part of the grand mastereplan for future success. I hope so. But it means that we the fans have to suffer another season of dumbing down expectations.

Not too concerned at the moment as Sturridge and Borini should give us a boost. But the rest of this transfer window and the one in the summer will remove all excuses BR and FSG have. And we're not even talking about winning the league here... this is just to compete well for a top 4 finish.

if BR and FSG want to do anything then they are going to have to go againt their stupid policy of not signing senior players. we need a commanding centre half and centre midfield player. also we should try activate fellani's buy out clause that be some show of intent. bought barmby b4 so why not

Nonsense. For every formation there are pros & cons dependant on the opposition's formation. To say that one is better than another is very short sighted.

sort of agree.

more about the players than the formation. we have played very well in a 4-3-3 this season and played very bad as well. First half yesterday for example. 4-4-2 second half was impressive as it was late on against Chelsea and Everton. The fact is UTD are a better team than us, the quicker we accept that the better and the quicker we can move on and improve.

the club has to stick to a plan otherwise we will never go forward. This team will get alot better by the end of the season and into next.

Agree with your analysis but I think we should be able to judge BRs potential at the end of the season.
