This is something I'm sure many people have thought about, with our trip to Old Trafford this Sunday I thought I'd make a thread suitable to the game.

These two are 1st (RVP) and 2nd (Suarez) in the top EPL scorers this season, so my question for you is which do you think is the better player?

With Suarez being the younger of the two and RVP being at the age where he's considered in their prime, for him to be so closely matched is great to see - For me it's Suarez, at the same age RVP had 39 goals to his name under 115 appearances, while Suarez has 30 in 64 appearances.

Opinions?

two very different players so its hard to judge. If I had a choice of who I would want to be playing as a pure central striker than I would choose RVP but Suarez can offer more in other areas of his game. They would probably complement each other extremely well if paired up front or as part of a front 3

VAN persie is a number 9 and suarez isn't Luis has been great this season but van persie has been very consistant down the years and Luis has been in and out a bit

As Maxi has already said, if we're talking about a pure central striker (typical number 9 type) then it's RVP hands down as his finishing is out of this world. I'd have to choose Suarez as the better footballer though but it's probably splitting hairs.

Must put my agreement with a few on this thread. It is hard to make a like for like comparison between the two.

As a striker - RVP is definately the better. He just seems to have a more natural ability to find the back of the net, although Suarez is doing great this season. I would imagine though if the same changes fell to RVP he would have netted more.

As an all around player - Suarez has probably got the edge. He is younger, faster and seems to have a lot more tricks up his sleeve than RVP. I'm only hoping that when Sturridge starts playing with Suarez and Sterling as part of the front three, that we will start to see even more of Suarez's genius - as he will have someone else there who can find the back of the net and feel less pressure.

I guess you're right, although RVP does have a couple bad years his goal totals were down to appearances as he was often injured. Suarez does seem to be improving year on year from the below stats.

RVP:

2011-2012 - 38 apps 1 sub - Goals 30
2010-2011 - 25 apps 6 sub - Goals 18
2009-2010 - 16 apps 2 sub - Goals 9
2008-2009 - 28 apps 4 sub - Goals 11
2007-2008 - 15 apps 2 sub - Goals 7
2006-2007 - 22 apps 5 sub - Goals 11
2005-2006 - 24 apps 11 sub - Goals 5

Suarez:

2012-2013 - 20 apps 0 sub - Goals 15
2011-2012 - 31 apps 2 sub - Goals 11
2010-2011 - 13 apps 1 sub - Goals 4

From Sky sports app:

Suarez is 26 at the end of the month
30 goals in 64 epl games

When RVP was the same age:
39 goals in 115 epl games
