nice bloke who is a bit of a crazy manager, can we not just leave it there no? tax breaks me arse.
I Think even the most biased fan of Benitez will admit the main focus for him was point scoring with Hicks and Gillette which came to the detriment of Club and Team, people need to remember the last season of Benitez and how poor he was. I honestly think the donation to the Hillsborough fund and the crocodile tears he shed at the Service were all parts of his campagn against the Owners at the time, the feller has form for this sort of thing at his other Clubs with mind games, smoke and mirror tactics and manipulating situations for his own gains all part of his makeup...

Bit rich coming out with a line like that when you yourself are the exact opposite to that description, isn't it? You're biased.

i think you are struggling to make a distinction between his performance as a manager (which in his last year was frightening) and the man himself. im as much a cynic as the next man but i think you are over cooking it.

No not really, I think the way he is and the way he managers are part of the same thing, I think they both go hand in hand. Benitez is a very political person, if you read a bit about his career, it has followed him around at all his Clubs Tenerife, Valencia, Liverpool and Inter Milan. The man has caused unrest, controversy and confrontation at Every Club he has been at, he even does it within his own Club as the likes of Pako, Hugh McCauley, Stevie Heighway, Rick Parry, Hicks and Gillette and even Xabo Alonso will all testify, he is not a nice man. Benitez does nothing in life unless its for his own gains thats why people are very sceptical over his motives in everything he does, he has history, who could ever forget him bringing cups of tea over to the media and newspaper men camped outside his house one day, just to keep them onside, very clever but at the same time very manipulative...

So why does he choose to stay in Caldy Joe and play such a role in liverpool life and the city? Once he left liverpool he had two young daughters yet chose to bring them up as scousers. You dont make sacrifices in life like that for show.

If he was a mercenary as you he would have been long gone back to madrid or wherever once they stopped paying him. Nothing I say will alter your views but I happen to think he has taken to the city and those tears were genuine at that time.

if chelsea's manager had done the job he was paid to do the club would not have gone into decline on the pitch , the only thing i agreed with george gillett was whenh he said to chelsea's manager "just coach and manage the team " and if he had done that instead of manipulating the fans and fighting with players driving some out and his long standing friends and assistant pako ayesteran , he might have still be liverpool manager instead he conned the fans in my opinion let down the club by buy total dross that the club are still paying for , you know if only a fraction of the backing chelsea's manager gets from liverpool fans filtered back towards liverpool football club and our manager thing might move forward.

Will always love Rafa meself, agree with Faz here though. Why are we debating Chelsea's manager again? Again il quote Faz quoting George Gillet in what he said to Chelsea's manager who was managing us at the time "just coach and manage the team", and again as Faz said he didn't do this, instead stirring the pot and starting arguments all around be it with fans, staff, players etc.

Spot on - he sussed them as cowboys straight away, and did the right thing (as usual) in fighting them.

Thankfully all true LFC fans are grateful for what he has done for our club both on and off the pitch.
