bar i believe her started the decline and his reign was like jekyll and hyde first part a real football coach second part a massive control freak who was never humble and would never admit his mistakes Yeah you have a point there, he definitely make a lot of mistakes in his last year especially and was very stubborn about them. That's no reason to ignore all the good things he did though. As for "starting the decline", in my opinion, the squad he left us with was better than the squad he found us with. The squad he inherited, he made European Champions of. Managers we've had since haven't been able to emulate success with the ones they've inherited.

i dont understand why everyone says that rafa was a control freak and then point to that as a negative! he was the MANAGER of the club, if he wasnt in control then how could he do his job?? i challenge anyone to fulfill a task given to them when ppl behind the scenes wont give you the tools to complete it! yes maybe rafa was a control freak, but thats not a bad thing in this game when your head is on the chopping block because you cant get the results you need because of interference!

One of the things about Rafa was that he knew EXACTLY what he wanted. He's a perfectionist and he sets very high standards of his players and staff. I had a tremendous amount of faith and trust in Rafa. I haven't felt that much faith or trust in any of the managers we've had since. I hope Brendan Rodgers can restore that faith, but at the moment, I'd be lying if I said I had 100% confidence that he knows exactly what he's doing and where he's bringing us. There's still plenty of time for that to change though, and I remain behind him.

I'm talking about the quality of the team, not the league position. As someone pointed out on another thread earlier (I think it was joecool), back then, there was no strong Man City and Spurs teams, so there wasn't a lot of competition for the 4th spot.
