Anyone who thinks Dalglish is a great manager is living on another planet. He loves the club and the city no doubt at all but then so do I. I will stop short of slagging him off but the best we can do ius now move on. Unless blind faith is after re-appointing king kenny as manager again? Otherwise Rodgers is our manager and rather than dwell on past legends lets try to make some new ones.

this is a much more reasoned post.
just because a poster doesn't join in on demeaning KD doesn't mean he thinks KD is still god.
personally glad that KD is gone. was glad that he got the whole season last year but i still have alot of affection for what he did for the club. do i want him back? no. would i sing his name on the kop? yes.

Yes it's not been a wonderful start for him, and I have also been a critic recently.
Let's not forget in all of this, the mess, and that is the kindest word i can use, is all from Dalglish.
The man should hang his head in shame, what an absolute disgrace, our suffering now isn't at the hands of Rodgers, it's at the doorstep of Dalglish.
And before the blind loyal bandwagon starts to slate me for his heroics 25 years ago, he broke even with all of that for the shambles he has left our club in, infact, twice over.
We need to give Brendan a little more time, judge him at the end of the season, i still believe we will fight for 4th with a couple of new signings in early Jan, we are really not that far off.
It is 1 of the tightest tables we have had in years, the best team from Jan, outside the top 3 will take 4th spot, we are not completely out of that mix. Stupid comments really mate. Won a cup, took us to another cup final. Not great in the league admittedly but why replace a gamble with another gamble? Comolli was responsible for the fees but let's not forget the money that came back in during and after Kenny. FSG are responsible for the additional decline. I'm not a Kenny fan boy either. I called for change and said the KD/DC partnership wouldn't work before they spent a penny.

Rodgers is less of a gamble than dalglish in my view. Perhaps commili was responsible for the fees not sure but one thing I do know with the exception of enrique (suarez was in the pipeline pre dalglish) then they were all duds.

Rodgers is a MASSIVE gamble. If I go to a horse meeting or a dog track I'm not going do my brains in on a rank outsider, especially at a time when I need a win. I'd look for something proven.

The director of football idea, especially with someone as stubborn as Dalglish in charge was always going to fail. Whilst I agree that Dalglish did very poorly for us, I thought that FSG made the right decision in making him manager on a full time basis. How he turned Hodgson's squad around and almost got us 5th place was impressive and justified a permanent contract. Unfortunately, it was the newcastle story all over again....took over a poorly performing team, rapidly moved them up the table, brought in his own players in the summer......and it all fell apart.

So you wouldn't have picked Shanks then....Some of the best managers in history were 'rank outsiders' Some of the best racehorses too.... Different circumstances. Shankly's task wasn't to restore a fallen giant back to greatness in an era where money rules. It was to build a team to get out of division 2 - that's all. Nowhere near the same kind of pressures or risks.

Few things are proven in football dunk even city and chelsea with unlimited money it was not all plain sailing. I agree rodgers was a gamble but so were the others including rafa. I think Rodgers suits FSG's strategy of slow organic build plus he is more likely to fit their corporate model.

problem most have is that people think a new manager will just wave a magic wand over this very ordinary squad and all will be well , dalglish and comolli thought the squad left by benitez was so poor they forked out over 100 million pounds on it and everyone has had there fingers burnt by an ex manager coming in , now if rodgers fails then he fails but its ok saying we back him when the reality is loads say they have backed him but never have , and that is now the problem as supporters and a club we all have to deal with , because of sentiment for past glories and past managers .

It wouldn't matter much which manager you have with the players we have, and those we need and haven't, we would be in or around this position anyway. Two seasons ago FSG appear to have come with a vision of the style of football they wanted at the club, yet they hired a manager and a director of football neither of which were versed (or probably even interested) in their tiki-taka vision, but they carried on regardless and sanctioned the purchase of near half a dozen players who mostly didn't suit their preferred style either. One season on and a net 40m spent, they suddenly wake up and realise they boarded the wrong bus, so they up and sack the manager and the director of football, and replaced them both with a manager well versed in the tiki-taka style they wanted in the first place. But then an appalling vista presented itself they had their preferred manager with their preferred playing style, but the wrong team, and if that wasn't bad enough when they looked in their piggy bank they were fresh out of funds! Now in this scenario who should we blame? The first manager they appointed? the second manager they appointed? Or those who sleepwalked into this mess in the first place?
