Aldos comments in tonights Echo. What I have been saying all this season and why I still strive for fourth place. You cannot be unrealistic in your ambitions but surely 4th is attainable as an aspiration this season particularly given the indifferent form of our rivals one, two and three and probably nailed on but fourth is wide open for any team that puts a run together.

Pragmatism

I guess this comes about because of all the false dawns we have had and the lack of investment. The fan mindset becomes lets accept what is likely and lets be prepared to accept disappointment because I am tired of being hurt. The problem with this is it becomes self perpetuating and eventually becomes the norm. Which is where I think we (as fans) are today.

We need to put the hope and fight back into the club if we are to progress. This might also encourage our dormant owners to wake up.

Good post Stanley. We MUST set our sights high otherwise we well and truly will end up believing that the norm is acceptable. The 'norm' meaning anywhere from 7th to 12th in the league!!!!

I disagree that we should be aiming for 2nd publicly. We need to aim where we can realistically expect to finish. Aiming for 2nd but finishing 10th would destroy confidence and make the manager look like a buffoon that is massively under achieving. (That may already describe him but he shouldn't be hanging himself out to dry as it reflects badly on the club.)
We should aim for 7th - a slight improvement on last year and very achieveable. If we finish higher then it boosts everyone connected to the club. Aiming for 2nd WILL lead to disappointment and will put massive pressure on BR.

We need to be ambitious but must adopt a pragmatic mindset until we have taken steps forward. No point in trying to run before we can walk.
