Michu, current top scorer in the Premier League only cost Swansea City £2 million from Spain. The prolific Demba Ba went to Newcastle on a free transfer. Arsenal signed proven German international Podolski for £11 million. So far, the two most likely players Liverpool will sign are Sturridge and former academy player Tom Ince. What was the point in hiring Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter, and restructuring our scouting system if we are just going to continue to buy overpriced British players and players we used to own?

If we are going to buy Sturridge, and I’m not entirely against it, let’s at least get him at the right price. Otherwise, why not explore the much better value for money markets of Europe and South America and grow our own British players in the academy.

This is exactly right, the added fee for a british player is just insulting, have we not learned from Carroll, Adam, Downing, Henderson!

2M for Michu is probably the transfer of the season, great buy from Swansea!

sorry jp, whereas i agree that our scouting hasn't been the best, all you've done is select players you like from other clubs as if they haven't bought any duds. it's selective in the extreme. personally not a fan of buying ince/sturridge either

but arsenal for example also spent 11m in gervinho and 15m on arshavin (whilst getting podolski for 11m).

we're not the only club who waste money on transfers. granted we are weak at it, but there ain't too many clubs that sparkle!
