Not going to draw too much out of this, but Optastats' partnership with LFC has led to a new found Stats section on the official LFC Site. I thought I'd just post a few of the more interesting stats of the year so far:

Defensive Record:

Joint 5th Best Defensive Record - conceding 20 goals
5 Clean Sheets from 16 games - Joint 5th most

Offensive Record:

Joint 10th Best Goals Scored - scored 22 goals
Level 2nd Worst Chance Conversation - a measly 7% from
2nd Most Shots at goal - 294 (1 behind high-flying Everton's total)

Suarez - Joint 3rd highest league goals, behind transfer target Michu and level with another target in Demba Ba but has taken an astronomical 69 shots, 16 more than any other player in the league (ironically Ba).

General Stats:

2nd youngest squad - average age of just 23.53
Joint 9th Best Discipline Record, with Spurs and Chelsea

"Key Passes Table" contains 2 Liverpool players inside the top 6 which I have to say I find baffling! Gerrard and Suarez.
Gerrard also features in the top 6 for most passes in the league, alongside Allen who is 5th.
Gerrard has attempted to cross the ball a 3rd highest in the league 121 times.

Makes for a good read - if only we could convert a few chances, we'd be bloody lethal.

This one surprised me the most. I know our chance conversion percentage last season was very poor, but I thought it may have improved a bit this season.

Another interesting (and probably surprising) one I read earlier is this:

Joe Allen has won possession 138 times in the Premier League this season, the most in the entire league.

I did a little number crunching on Liverpool's distribution opta stats compared to last year. I pro-rated last year's numbers as we've only played 16 games this year so far. All numbers include both successful and unsuccessful attempts.

Total # of passes: Up 4% this year over last
Total # of crosses: Down 26%
Total # of dribbles: Up 50%

I don't know about you but that last stat really seems counter-intuitive. I wouldn't have expected such a spike with the system BR is attempting to install.

Suarez is probably responsible for 50% of the total dribbles for the team I imagine his ban last year helped reduced last years number and affected that last stat. Plus we've now go Sterling and Suso playing on the wings, both like a bit of a dribble compared to Downing and Henderson who Daglish persisted in playing

Stats don't lie...are you joking? the deceitful little smucks 'couldn't handle the truth' if it bit them on the bum! But there is one stat I do have some respect for, and that's the one skulking in the shadow's of the league table.

87% of stats are made up....

And the other 63% are incorrect

Yes stats should carry a health warning, percentages are a different kettle of fish altogether. I played a lot of poker in my youth, but I was never a gambler, I played the percentages, however they were always intuitive and therefore much more likely to be accurate than some fool stat.
