KOPTALK sources insist that a deal to bring Gareth Barry to Anfield will be pushed through as early as possible this summer.

It is claimed that the player's agent has remained in contact with agents representing Liverpool Football Club although no formal talks will begin until Aston Villa complete their Premier League commitments on 24th May.

Liverpool are willing to pay Villa's £18million valuation and if that does go through then the boss should be left with enough money to target a winger before having to sell to strengthen other areas of the team.

Early indications are that the Reds have started this summer's transfer business much earlier than in previous years.

Meanwhile, speculative newspaper reports are quoting that Rafa has a summer transfer budget of £100m to spend. Our Anfield insiders claim that the boss will be handed at least £30m to spend regardless of further participation in the Champions League and excluding sales.

Interesting. With everything to do with David Silva and David Villa being linked with us as well. I wonder how much Rafa actually does have. I dont believe the majority of rumours to do with the two Valencia players at all.

Can't see us paying the full amount considering he'd only have a year left?

I hope Rafa is not going distract current players from winning the PL by fuelling rumours of next seasons signings. Xabi is in great form and could get the hump if Rafa is already lining up Barry as his replacement.

Dont get me wrong, I am excited that the club is looking to bring in quality players but I hope they dont lose focus on the job in hand ie. the PL & CL double!

Sorry but why are we willing to pay £18 for a player with one year left on his contract?

I think Barry's age,Contract and form will lessen the deal. Barry was in hot form last season and this season other players have shone from Villa.

I would be expecting to pay 13-14million.

Silva is a real gamble. I don't know whether i would be spending the cash on him. If he was under 10million yes. But anything around 15million im unsure.

I would rather them sign a player with proven premier league experience for that amount. Lennon,Valencia or even Robben.

i don't understand the need for barry - he is not good enough to get in the team and would earn massive wages ........ i would much prefer to see the money spent improving areas of the team in which we are more in need

i have to admit barry is not for me either. when you consider his age and price, and what would he really add to the team??? and please dont say "options". alonso is better.

Please Rafa forget about Barry.. we have Alonso and Macherano !! both are top best DM's if you really want to get one player from Villans.. lets get Ashley Young... and the names would give us more power.. Villa , Silva , Lennon , Robben i hope he concetrate on these players instead of Barry
