I don't agree with your assessment of what a fair target is. I will judge this season's league performance on the 2nd half of the season when the players should be fairly used to the new system and we will hopefully have an extra option or 2 up front come January Even if you judge him over the second half of the season, he should be able to improve over the whole season compared to the last, simply because, our last 2nd part of the season was abysmal (i think we ranked 17th pointswise in the league and Tom Warner said that it was the reason KD got the sack despite going to 2 cup finals and winning one). Talking about getting used to a new manager/system, don't think that it should take that long, BR said it himself that it should take about 10 games + why doesn't Steeve Clark need half a season + KD (our worst manager) had I think the 3rd best points tally in the half season after he took over from RoyH. But we might be saying the same thing if BR can get a similar or better 2nd half of the season. Would you take the risk of keeping him if we are below 17th in Jan? If we are above 17th and we have a good 2nd half of the season, we'll definitely be improving over the last season. If he improves significantly over the 1st half of this season, it shows that the system is working and that be enough for me. I think Steve Clarke has adapted so well because the players he has inherited are used to playing a game based on defensive solidity which is what SC has reinforced. BR has come to Liverpool and radically altered the playing style which will naturally take more time to adapt to it. If it takes the players 10 games as BR has said, we still have 3 more games before that threshold is reached. And I would persist with him if we are below 17th and in this scenario, I'm sure the owners would realise that the squad needs quick investment

Well he said 10 games, not sure only in the league, but it doesn't matter, i am ok with 10 games in the league. So if the remainder 9 games should allow us to finish better that 17th and the 28 games would then allow us to finish above 8th. I have my way of judging which I am sure is not perfect and you have a different one which says any improvement in the second half is good enough. If i had such a target, i might be tempted to finish 20th after the first half and improve over that in the second half.
In any case I would prefer BR to improve over last year as changing managers again would not be good for the club, i hope we have found the right guy even if not convinced.

The only thing we do differently is play the ball on the floor more often, in particular when Reina releases it short. We have a squad full of international footballers who have played football all of their lives - no way do they need half a season to adapt to playing in a very slightly different way. The 'new way' only really affects the defenders anyway as they don't play it long as much. Every time a player changes club or goes on international duty he is asked to play in a slightly different way or peform a different role - the period of adaptation should be minimal and not be any excuse for poor results....something that jamie carragher also said earlier in the season.

Where have most of our goals come from though? A lot have come through defenders losing the ball in possession which takes time to get used to. A new style of play always take time to get used to and at the top level of football, it is the little differences like finding the little bit of space and having a ball played to run onto that make all the difference. Carra is never going to make excuses but the reality is that the players are still adapting to it regardless of how long they have been playing football. When a player moves clubs, it is very rare that he moves to a club where all the players are playing a new style of football and this is why the bedding in period is minimal as everyone else around them knows what they are doing. It took Man City how many years to even break into the Champions League because of the issue of too many players coming in at once and having to adapt. It takes time

First of all i am not asking BR to get us to top 4 this season and very few fans are, I am just asking for an improvement over a very bad last season (according to most fans)
Secondly, i cannot understand that only in BR's system players need so much time to adapt, it could be that our players are not technical enough, but then they will never adapt, not even in 10 years (like Carra will never fit in Barca for example), else, as Carheex said, no player would be able to play in their national sides as they probably play different systems in their respective teams. It would also mean that BR will never be able to coach a national side playing about only 10 games a season.
Third, i think it depends a lot on the manager not on the system. He has to know how to adapt his system based the available players. Hugues had a big budget at City but I am not sure he was experienced or good enough (as Mancini) to win the league then. Why is it that since JoseM left Chelsea, only Ancelotti could win the league, Grant, the Brazilian guy and even AVB could not do it. AVB left and DiMateo did miracles with exactly the same squad.
I think we'll know if BR is the right guy or not at the end of the season at most. I am not saying that he has to win the league this season, but, an improvement over last year would only be a good indication.
