In a perfect world where the situation is the same - Yes.
But you can't give one manager £150m to invest on their team and implementing their system then bring in a new manager who you know for a fact will need to completely overhaul the team/system at a fraction of that investment and expect the same result, it's just madness CarheeX. It will take time to see the best of Brendan Rodgers and his system, surely other fans can see this? In terms of league position, it'll be at least a season (and two transfer windows) before we can expect and improvement on 8th position, and you know what.. I'd absolutely love to see a turn around in terms of longevity at the club. I hope Rodgers is given the time and a fair chance. Why do you need to overhaul a team completely to improve by at least one position? You talk as if we were relegated last season or have a relegation team or all our last year players were walking deads. Do you know how many internationals play in our current team? Incredible.

he was'nt sacked because of his league position, that was just the reason they used, he was sacked because of a snidey, little cheat who plays for us and a certain racial incident which Dalglish stupidly backed publicaly which exposed the club to shame worldwide, standard charter stepped in and the rest as they say is history, the position of the table did'nt help but that was'nt the reason for me.. The pure bitterness in your posts never ceases to amaze me. Yes, I can imagine that's why they sacked the manager, because he supported one of his players. He should have ran him out the club, destroyed his career and shattered his family. Rodgers needs 2 years and some financial backing. He shouldn't be sacked if we finish below 8th, but I would expect him to at least equal it if he's the man to take us forward. Fvck it - why not give him 10 years before making a judgement call and see if he can be the first LFC manager to win the FA Vase!? No your idea to get rid of him before he's even got his ar5e in the manager's chair is much more constructive. [/quote] +1. We're never going to get anywhere sacking managers every season. To expect otherwise is both moronic and childish.

The apparent ignorance of some people on here is absolutely bemusing at times!
I can't tolerate people who's attitudes are 'We're Liverpool FC, we expect top 4 each and every season at least!' - this is just ludicrous, get some bloody perspective and come back to reality.
Look at the situation we're currently in, Liverpool have been in transition for arguably 3 or 4 seasons now and there's been absolutely no continuity or stability.
Currently we've only one striker (this is not Rodgers' fault, there's no way he would have let Andy Carrol leave without assurances that replacements would be brought in - why would he, to make his job more difficult?!) and without goal contribution from other players, we can't take any games as a given 3 points and therefor we can't expect to be too far up the league table come the end of the season.
When Rodgers came to Liverpool, the squad was made up (and still is for the most part) of players like Spearing, Adam, Cole, Downing and Henderson, not exactly a squad overflowing with quality in depth is it? That in mind, Rodgers has had to change the formation of the team and bring in youth players throughout the first eleven at times and as we all know 'you won't win anything with kids' - the team needs time to adjust to the new system, the younger lads need time to settle into playing at premier league standard, none of them have been promoted to the first team because they're ready to play at this standard so they need time and we need to strengthen (especially in attacking options) in January before we consider anything better than an improvement on last season.
On what basis could you possibly expect us to finish any higher than 8th? I think an improvement on last season would be fantastic, we're in no position to expect more than that considering all our current troubles.
Looking at our last 3 premier league results, Newcastle, Everton and Chelsea are all teams that will finish above us this season. 3 points from those games are good results and I feel Brendan Rodgers deserves credit for them. And let's be perfectly honest - no hard luck stories, but it should be 5 points. We won that Everton game, we just robbed of 2 points at the death. Brendan Rodgers has made some brave calls tactically and personnelwise in those games too, so I agree he deserves credit - credit some are loathe to award. If you analysed every game from every club you could probably 'justify' a few more points here and there for everyone. It's fans like yourself that use these excuses/conspiracy theories/hard luck stories, that are making us a bit of a laughin stock as of late.

As a team going forward we couldn't rely on Maxi, Kuyt and Bellamy. The players who had been bought previously are not up to scratch (step forward Downing, Cole and Henderson) and so the squad needed a complete overhaul. It still requires several players to complete it still and any incoming manager would have faced the same problem. Just because a player is good enough to play for his country does not mean that they will definitely add anything to our squad.

Just heard a. snippet of interview with buck saying that our target for the. season is an improvement on the. 8th position of last year....genius......then then gives it the. Dave oleary...young lads this young lads that.....I'm sorry buck even though I'm a fan, that kind "get out of jail" talk is not good enough period.... For weeks I have been saying that a improvement over last year is a minimum that is expected from BR, and to name a few Faz and Maxi have been arguing forcefully that it was too much to ask. I don't think that BR would keep his job if comes the END of the season we are below 8th and rightfully so, KD was sacked finishing 8th, Rafa 7th, Hoillier 4th, Hodgson was in the 2nd half of the table half way through. However, I think it will not be easy for BR to finish above 8th from what I have seen so far. With the same number of games KD had 7pts more and even RH had 3 more. Talking is good, particularly to get a job when you don't have enough credentials, but to keep the job you need to show results. So BR, now is the time to step up and show your worth. Houllier inherited a team of James, Rob Jones, Redknapp, McMananman, Ince, Fowler, Owen and Ruddock to name but a few we where also a top four team, Benitez inherited a team of Dudek, Riise, Big Sami, Carragher in his peak, Gerrard in his peak, Finnan, Hamann, Kewell and Baros and a team which Houllier left in the top five, I wont mention Roy Hodgson because the feller was never given a chance and was treated disgracefuly in such a short space of time and Dalglish blew the best part of 140 million quid. So to say Rogers is starting on an equal footing as those previous managers is an absolute joke looking at the team and resources we have, he is a pauper compared to Houllier, Benitez and Dalglish as regards being given the same financial backing afforded to the other managers. Its alrite saying get shut, who do people want then to replace him given the fact that any new manager will be in the same boat and have the same restrictions applied to him... Possibly the most sensible post I've ever seen from you joecool, well said I have to agree with you Bar. Do you think he is starting to soften round the edges

he's a bullsh1tter, does any1 believe what he says to press,?
I bet he doesnt himself.
The footy does the talkin full of hypocrites on here. You crticise Kenny for not saying anything and being anti-press and not slagging the players off after bad games. Gerrard said we were aiming for top 4 and you come on saying he is cuckoo land and need to get real blah, blah blah. Now BR's makes a true statement that finishing above last year is the target and he still is slagged off. The press have you guys on strings - right load of puppets +1. Spot on. If anybody on here even suggests we may have a shot of finishing in the top 4, they're lifted out of it and laughed off as living with their heads in the clouds. Brendan is honest and says it'd be great to improve on last season's 8th spot, and he's blasted for it. Let's put this in perspective - he's saying we should be aiming for AT LEAST 7th. That's 7th or higher, and we have people on here hanging him for that?! Are we for f*cking real?? Who on here thinks we even have a chance of finishing higher than 7th?? Because I haven't seen anybody lately saying that we have. Absolute joke. Bunch of hypocrites the lot of you. Is that anymore ludicrous than the people who think he should only be sacked if we're relegated? I'm not interested in such comparisons, but to take that on it's own, that is ridiculous too, yes. If for example, we just narrowly avoided relegation come the end of the season, I think it'd be fair to suggest that progression wasn't happening under Rodgers, in which case I'd advocate a change myself. If there are signs of progression, then I wouldn't entertain the idea of a change. The topic of this post is people criticising Rodgers for saying he's aiming to finish at least 7th. Do you realise how laughable that is?!

Sorry Vish, that may have been a little misleading. We all know that Brendan Rodgers was brought in to manager Liverpool because of his 'footballing philosophy' (whatever that means) and whatever that entails. We all knew, especially the owners who're who I was referring to that understood he needed to overhaul the squad to achieve what he was brought in to implement.

I'm not feeling sorry for myself over it, but we were blatantly robbed of the 3 points at the death. That's a fact. The day I take advice from someone like you as to what makes a good fan, is the day I lose interest in football altogether.

It would indeed be foolish to sack a manager every year, especially if he was doing well. But no one is suggesting that we sack people for the sake of it - your comments are very odd at times. You may or may not have seen my remark a few posts prior to this one saying that we should find a good manager and stick with him.
Surely keeping someone who is doing badly is far worse than sacking someone who is doing badly!? BR can't be given special dispensation just because the 2 managers before him didn't last very long. He needs to be judged purely on how well he does in the league against expectation.
Forget the last few years for a moment.....would you be so defensive of BRs bottom half placing if he had taken over after Benitez or Houllier? I doubt it very much - you'd be saying that he's dragged us down to the level of Stoke, Wigan and Norwich whereas his predecessors were winning cups, finishing in the top4, being crowned as champions of europe etc... People are being lenient towards brendan because of how long RH & KD lasted - they are not forming their opinions on how 'well' he is doing.
