[i]"considering the squad has had £150m investment in the last 2 years, it will be quite obvious that he hasn't got a clue".

BR spent £30m of that £150m and according to you he is the one to blame?

Ok, I'll put it another way. Do you not think that spending £30m on improvements is enough to make us finish higher than 8th considering the squad was probably already good enough for 6th place?

The team finished 8th last season in the league.
Therefore the squad was good enough for 8th place.

BR hasn't spent £30m adding to the squad, he has spent it replacing donkeys.

His predecessor wasted £100m (approx) on truly awful players. BR spent most of the summer getting rid of players that were getting money for old rope.

So squad wise we are no stronger, if anything, in the short term we will be weaker. However if BR is allowed to see out his contract we will have a much better squad than the one he inherited.

I have no expectations for this season other than to see the club stabilise and the team to show clear signs of improvement. That improvement may not result in an improved league position but we shall see.

Are you saying that we could improve but finish lower down in the table?? How does that work then?

Nope, I'm saying the team performances and quality of football could improve, but that doesn't guarantee a higher league position. We are playing a lot of very good football but our lack of an out and out goalscorer is hindering us.

In much the same way as having a squad good enough for 6th doesn't mean you wont finish 8th.

So what's the use of spending 30m to replace the donkeys if we end up with a weaker squad? No logic there unless the replacements are bigger donkeys or the manager turn them to be worse than the donkeys.

Now if the donkeys in their first season finished 8th (and 2 cup finials winning 1), why wouldn't their replacement who are supposed to be better not finish better than 8th? Where is the logic?

The logic is quite simple

You dont replace £100m worth of rubbish with £30m.

Our squad needed (still needs) vast improvement. We had (still have) under-performing players on huge contracts.

We now have a number of very good youngsters being blooded and the quality of football is very encouraging. We still lack a cutting edge in the form of an out and out goal poacher but that may be rectified in January or in the summer.

Of course you may think that Carroll, Henderson and Downing have been good value for money and therefore that BR inherited a strong squad. I dont and he was left with 3 players that cost roughly £70 but that now wouldn't fetch £25m if they were sold on.

As a result BR had no room for manouvre and the main reason the squad is now weaker is because we lack numbers.

However if BR is allowed to see out his contract then there is every chance he will leave us with a stronger squad than what he started with.

No logic their. If rubbish can finish 8th, any improvement should finish higher than 8th, else it no improvement. Anything else is looking for excuses. When did I say that Caroll, Downing etc were value for money? Please don't make up what I said, be factual.

Please read posts properly before having a hissey fit.

This is exactly what I posted

"Of course you may think that Carroll, Henderson and Downing have been good value for money and therefore that BR inherited a strong squad".

I didnt say you thought that, I merely suggested that you might, hence the use of the word 'MAY'.

KD left BR with £70M worth of excuses. One is out on loan and the other 2 warm the bench every week. Now that is a considerable handicap for any manager.

The squad still needs cleared out and there are still plenty of very poor players wearing the shirt.

It is unfair and unrealistic to expect the manager to automatically improve our league position when he is clearing up his predecessors mess. A mess that saw his squad display relegation form in the 2nd half of last season
