Let me start off by stating in no uncertain terms that this is in no way a Rodgers out or knee jerk reaction thread (something this forum has far too much of).

It has been touched on in places by a number of people but lets put it out there clearly, if you are disappointed because Liverpool don't look like top 4 candidates then the only one to blame is yourself, because Liverpool from day 1 were not top 4 candidates. We do not have a first 11 good enough, nor do we have a squad good enough. If you felt we would be competing for top 4 that is your own stupidity because we clearly were never going to. I'm tired of 'optimistic' fans who work on the belief that Liverpool have a divine right to be top 4, we don't, and we are a (relatively) long way behind in terms of quality. You do as much damage to club as the 'pessimistic' ones.

I don't think Rodgers has got it right yet, I think we play okay football that is nice at times, also I don't even think we (in fact stats show it is a fact that we don't) create as many chances as last year. But he is gonna take his time to put his plan into action, will it be the right plan? Who knows, he's a decent manager who may or may not make the step up, but he isn't going to do in 6 months or a year. We took a chance on him, so lets see how the gamble plays out.

So again I say, don't put ridiculously unrealistic expectations on the manager and team then cry about it when they don't come to fruition. Liverpool do not have the players to finish top 4, therefore we will not finish top 4. Sometimes a manager can make up for that disparity in quality but Rodgers is not of that level (maybe he will be in the future). We have one fit striker who takes 9 shots to hit the target on average for christ sakes. Rodgers and the back room have made mistakes at time sure, but so does every team. We simply aren't good enough yet to finish in top 4 so get yourselves a reality check and stop being so knee jerk when the team doesn't fulfil your ridiculous expectations.

I don't think you are being entirely fair on Rodgers but I do accept your general thinking in support of him. Lets face it no manager in the world would turn Liverpool round in 3 months after the mess they were in. Rodgers has not (as yet) brought many new players in and I think it will take maybe 12 months to get us back on track. But I think he will and I was impressed with his reaction to Joe Cole on Wednesday hauling him off and saying he has blown it. Make no mistake other players will have noted that. This is a man who knows what he wants and I feel will get it in the end. The only issue is FSG for me and will they back Rodgers.

I agree with much of the above. I don't buy into the claims that it will take such a long time to make us competitive again though. Dalglish finished 8th and got the sack, but he did spend a lot of money. BR has been given money and has been allowed to reshape the squad therefore my expectations for this season are that we don't fall any further backwards. That is NOT unreasonable.

A good manager can improve the club in a few weeks or a few months. Why does rodgers need 2 or 3 years to do what steve clarke has done in 2 months? Why are Fulham above us when they have lost their best players? Why are Swansea better than us even though we've got their manager and we already had better players? Why are west ham above us? why are we the 2nd best team on merseyside despite spending more on players in one year than moyes has probably spent in 10!?

That's all for now.

Probably because BR is churning something really really special that needs a lot of time to mature.

The Title of this thread is called Reality Check, some people on here need massive doses of it. I just cant believe Rogers position as Club Manager is being called into question at such an early stage of the season and his reign, Listen I will readily admit the feller has'nt helped himself with some of the things he has done and decisions he has made but to add pressure on what is already a difficult job is an absolute Joke.
If you are going to blame anyone for our mess then blame the blag King, Dalglish, the man who knocked us off our perch back in the early 90's then blew our best chance to get back amongst the elite last season to the tune of nearly 130 million quid, he's the one to blame not Rogers, the blag King he has done more damage to Liverpool than the Blitz.

So KD has to be blamed for BR performing worse than him so far. Very logical.

to be honest I think Brendan Rogers has a virtualy impossible task on his hands after the mess the blag King left him with. Transfer Kitty all but gone, owners wanting the wage bill slashed coz the Blag King put them all on big wages like Carroll, Henderson, Enrique and Downing and having to lose players like Bellamy, Kuyt and Maxi with no money to replace them, summs it up perfectly that Rogers has had to use kids like Sterling and Suso well before they needed to be introduced because we dont have the numbers or quality, so Yes I do think Rogers has been restricted somewhat because of the previous managers incompetence in the Job.
