why does it make sense? new players come in with the prospect of winning medals, playing for their country and being succesful. so when a club approaches them they say "come play with gerrard and torres", not "come in and play with below par players after torres and gerrard have left."

The boys are not going to leave, its financial suicide in the long run. its sends out the wrong message.

its a joke - another load of crap in the papers - liverpool have always paid lower signing on fees than our competitors and lower wages too ..... there is no way that will suddenly change now when we are skint! this story is just made up bull based on the kind of money arsenal, chelsea and man u pay (or in spuds case 'arry sticks in his back pocket on every deal)
