If we can sort our defence and if we start firing goals. This is the basics that is required by any football team isn't it? We are pretty poor right now then.

I would be the first to admit that there are weak areas and a couple of top signings are still needed but we have seen teams overcome weaknesses in the past and with enough commitment and good management we can do it again. I also agree that our greatest weakness it present is our owners, be it lack of knowledge and/or commitment to the cause, they need to wise up fast and compete at all of the coal faces and not just in the sponsorship area, important and all as that is. I fully believe if we can stay in touch with the top clubs until January and make a couple of top signings it's still all there to play for this season and like yourself I will not raise the white flag until it is mathematically impossible to finish 4th, or better. Whilst I was bitterly disappointed with the lack of funding for Rodgers, whome I also hold in high esteem, I could never be part of the doomsayers brigade, and even if we loose tomorrow I will still be hopeful.

You really think we can get top 4??Chelsea,Mancs 1&2 ,Arsenal which one do you think we can overtake?Then there is Spurs,Everton who will probably have an interest as well.Theres no doomsayers just realism.

Yes Kane, I agree with Stanley it's possible and while it remains possible I too will remain hopeful. As to which team we might displace who knows? Not me and not you either, in football anything can happen, and it's far too early in the season to be writing ourselves off.
Of course it's a big ask given our striker situation but if we can manage to stay within striking distance of the leaders until January and if we can sign a couple of top players including a top striker who knows where we might finish?

Apparently I am basing this all on guesswork as opposed to what? quantum physics? if there is anyone out there who can predict accurately future football results plerase get in touch with me FAST I have some money to invest.

Otherwise 47 years experience watching Liverpool at Anfield tells me its not worth throwing the towel in yet. We are say 6th place by Jan (Not impossible) then its game on as far as I am concerned.

Stan you are guilty of being a fan and having hope.

Keep it going, it's what normal fans do round the world.

Our friend of many names, who is Fergie's number one fan, wont understand your point of view. He sees having hope as a weakness.

I think some of them base their predictions on the law of averages, ie; with 20 teams they take a 50/50 bet and tel us we'll finish around 10th give or take a place or two...not exactly quantum physics!

The examples are too many to list but a few that time Liverpool were mid table at Xmas and when on to win the league, Istanbul, Greece winning the euro championships etc etc etc. You need to be realistic but if you don’t believe in reasonable hope there is little point in following football.

I don’t think we will get champions league football this season but if you asked me do I think we can? Then I would say yes even now, even with the start this season and even without a recognised goal scorer in the team. I believe we have a top manager who will soon start to influence and get results maybe not now but definitely post Christmas which is the critical part of the season.

I also believe we have signings to come in January and 2 to 3 youngsters who I think will take the premiership by storm. There are no end of negatives I could list but then why would I follow my club ? what would be the point?

If we beat Utd well tomorrow then as far as I am concerned its game on. I will not give up on 4th place until its mathematically impossible for us to do it as a middle aged red I know no other way and nor should any of you wherever you live whatever your age.

Paisley and Shankly did not achieve greatness festering in a sea of what we can’t do! They focussed on what we could do!

Last season I would not have said this because I believed we had the wrong man in charge. Now I believe we have the RIGHT man in charge so let’s do our bit. Let’s aim for the champion’s league this season.

Starting tomorrow!
just two points stanley, you mention we were mid table at xmas yet still won the league, yes very true only difference was it contained a team consisting of Hansen, Lawrenson, Neal, Souness, Rush and Dalglish and not one containing Pepe the Clown, Johnson, Skirtel, Enrique, Borini, Suarez and Downing, slight difference me thinks. You then go on to mention Shanks and Paisley focusing on what they could do, well they never the first thing they focused on was the negatives and what they were not good at, they concentrated on that knowing full well if they put that right then the positives would come from that. You keep on mentioning that you have been a supporter for 50 years, well stanley please demonstrate that when you tell us things on here instead of getting things wrong and pretending everything is not as bad with the Club as how it seems, attitudes like that, pretending everything is alrite is what has allowed the club to drift for so long.

Would lo e top four. still think we need to pick up results quickly. the sooner we get that first win in the league the better. even everton are breaking away at the minute. quite distressing for reds who live and work with blue noses!!!

Better financial position -> 1 Step forward
Lucas Injury -> 2 Step backwards
Young prospects -> +1
Deadly striker -> -2

Team Quality 2012/13 > 2011/12

We can finish better than last year.
Borini have the quality to make some fantastic runs.
Time for Allen to play more balls forward than sideways.
We need goals from MidField. Time for Shelvey as AM and SG08 as RF...
