Look only a fool or the most deluded red in the world would say Liverpool is in a strong position at the moment. I have followed football for near 50 years and I can tell you the unexpected can and does happen in football.
The examples are too many to list but a few that time Liverpool were mid table at Xmas and when on to win the league, Istanbul, Greece winning the euro championships etc etc etc. You need to be realistic but if you don’t believe in reasonable hope there is little point in following football.
I don’t think we will get champions league football this season but if you asked me do I think we can? Then I would say yes even now, even with the start this season and even without a recognised goal scorer in the team. I believe we have a top manager who will soon start to influence and get results maybe not now but definitely post Christmas which is the critical part of the season.
I also believe we have signings to come in January and 2 to 3 youngsters who I think will take the premiership by storm. There are no end of negatives I could list but then why would I follow my club ? what would be the point?
If we beat Utd well tomorrow then as far as I am concerned its game on. I will not give up on 4th place until its mathematically impossible for us to do it as a middle aged red I know no other way and nor should any of you wherever you live whatever your age.
Paisley and Shankly did not achieve greatness festering in a sea of what we can’t do! They focussed on what we could do!
Last season I would not have said this because I believed we had the wrong man in charge. Now I believe we have the RIGHT man in charge so let’s do our bit. Let’s aim for the champion’s league this season.
Starting tomorrow!

So you are basicaly basing all this on pure guess work, hoping we will be better, I on the otherhand look at where we are now, what we have seen up to now and what the possibility of how things can change in order for us to compete again, sorry from what I have seen from FSG they will not be providing us with what we need and the team itself is on its way down big time, we are even a pale shadow of the team from just 3 seasons ago nevermind anything else and that was nowhere near good enough either.

And you say Stan is basing it on Guesswork, looks like you are too. how can mine be based on guesswork, I have told people we are on the way down, 7th, 6th and 8th league placing last 3 seasons, fact, drawing too many games last season and continuing that into this season, fact, FSG not spending enough money in order to get us out of this position, fact, Liverpool from January up until now are on the worst run in the league with only 6 wins to date now that Wolves and Blackburn are relegated, fact, worst start to a league campagn for 50 odd years, fact, you see when I say something I do back it up with things I feel are legitimate reasons whereas as stanley bases his on guesswork and because we were the best team way back in the 70's and 80's.

If we can sort out the defence, we'll be in top 6 at least.
If we can sort out the defence and start firing goals, who's to say we won't get top 4?

You don't know where we'll be at the end of the season, fact! Last season isn't this season, fact! FSG blew a lot of money last season on players, fact! FSG sacked the manager from last season, fact! FSG got a fresh manager in who had arguably one of the toughest starts to the league out of any team, fact!
It's all fine that you say things, but when people sound like broken records that aren't willing to change their tune, it gets old, and that's what is done, FACT!

I fully agree with all you said there Stanley except the bit about our previous manager. Of course we can still finish in the top 4, and as you say we were behind at January before and finished top and that can happen again, and indeed despite the naysayers, there are signs that Rodgers is starting to turn things around, and a good win at home tomorrow could be the springboard we need to get the side up and running. I would be the first to admit that there are weak areas and a couple of top signings are still needed but we have seen teams overcome weaknesses in the past and with enough commitment and good management we can do it again. I also agree that our greatest weakness it present is our owners, be it lack of knowledge and/or commitment to the cause, they need to wise up fast and compete at all of the coal faces and not just in the sponsorship area, important and all as that is. I fully believe if we can stay in touch with the top clubs until January and make a couple of top signings it's still all there to play for this season and like yourself I will not raise the white flag until it is mathematically impossible to finish 4th, or better. Whilst I was bitterly disappointed with the lack of funding for Rodgers, whome I also hold in high esteem, I could never be part of the doomsayers brigade, and even if we loose tomorrow I will still be hopeful.
