Yep. Another quality player we couldn't sign because of their stupid age policy.

I would prefer Llorente though. People say he's a Spanish Carroll but there is more to him than that. He's good with the ball at his feet, in the air and he is pretty quick for a tall chap. Not sure how old he is but let's hope it's not over 27 or FSG might not stump up.

The lunacy of this thread has made my day!!! Can someone give me a couple of good reasons why Llorente, Damiao, Walcott or Huntelaar would want to come to Liverpool?

Walcott is the only possibility as I don't think any of the other champions league teams want him and if he can't sort out his contract with Arsenal, Liverpool might present his best English option. Spanish teams wouldn't really be able to afford his wages bar the big 2 so I can't see him leaving England.

I can't see LFC pushing the boat out for his wages. He's on a fair whack and wanting more if I'm not mistake. There's also the small matter of us not being anywhere close to qualifying for european football of any kind for a few years. The chances of him coming to us must be approximately nil.

I don't think its nil, its slim but theres a chance. Where else will he go? Man City don't need him nor do United. chelsea might go for him if they see him as a striker but if they want to play him as a winger, they have plenty of other options there. Would he go to Spurs coming from Arsenal? Would Spurs go for him even? Everton and Newcastle definitely wouldn't pay his wages. He fits the mould of an FSG player considering his age and if we got him for cheap/free he would have definite resale value so they might see his wages as a good investment. Say we offered him close to 90,000 a week, costing us around 4.75 a year and paid 7/8 max for him in January, he would cost us give or take 27 over 4 years. Considering how much Allen is going to cost us over the same period, FSG would probably justify it that way

I don't want us to sign any player that chooses us because we are the only ones who can afford his astronomical wage demands. Besides, things look like they are coming together quite nicely at arsenal - my money's on him staying there.

I don't doubt that thats the most likely outcome but I would personally take him despite his wages if his transfer fee was lower.

Llorente is 27 years old (born 26 Feb 1985), so he's over the hill as far as FSG are concerned I think.

Wonder why we pursued Dempsey since he soon turns 30! Maybe FSG are willing to make exceptions from their rule of thumb?

Unfortunately players will always go to the club offering them the most wages. Just look at Siggy.

Personally I don't really care as long as they play to their best and help us improve. If we buy players that only want to come here because it's Liverpool we won't be buying that many players.
