I'm not one to have a go at people. But I just looked at Zenit, a club in a nice city albet in the Russian league, which doesn't seem to be too desirable unless players are paid serious money.

Last year we brought in Henderson for 16 mil, downing for 20 mil, Adam for 7 mil, Coates for 8 mil, and a bit earlier we got Carroll and Suarez for 55 mil.

Would anyone else of prefered we took the Zenit approach and brought in players in the calibre of Hulk, Witsel, Coatez and Suarez for the same amount.

I know, silly question. But it makes you think.

I think if you give the same money that Kenny got to all the premier league managers then sadly all of them will spend it a lot wiser and may be on more top calibre players so yes we could of done a lot better with the money we had. Its a real shame looking back at it now but I guess there is no way to reverse it.

Yeah, I'm not making a point really. Just thinking, and sharing my thoughts. We got ripped of with players that up to this point bar Suarez and Coates are a little bit below par (I hope they come good, and believe they can). Just shows what you can get if you use your brain.

It's what so many people have pointed out, we should of used our brains and spent the money on players that were already good.

Important to have the whole picture when talking about transfers. Hulk and Witsel wages would have paid that of our 5 transfers. Hulk and Witsel went to filthy rich Zenit for their pockets (not blaming them but just stating the fact). Even Chelsea were not ready to agree to Hulk's demands, so do think we could afford that?

We spent it all on quantity when we really should of done is spend it on the 2 or 3 quality stars that we were lacking to put us to the next level.

And why did carroll, henderson, downing etc come to Liverpool? because we offered their clubs stupid money and offered the player stupid money - they didn't come here for the love of 'our history'.
Zenit may not be everyone's cup of tea but they ARE offering players CL football and very real chances of league winners medals. If a player chose Liverpool over Zenit I'd question their mentality, motives and ambition. It's hard to imagine why anyone would sign for Liverpool these days UNLESS it's for money.

We don't even have quantity with only about 20 senior players for the season including some teenagers. It was not too different last season especially as this years teenagers were still kids.

If you combined Downing, Adam, Henderson and Carroll's wages, I'm sure we could of come up with a similar wage for the 2 players. If we'd want that, that is the question.

Car, we are a club with a new manager who has great ideas and is a good people person. We are in one of the best leagues in the world and apart from the last few seasons, we were fighting amongst the best in Europe. On top of a big history, there are more than a few reason why players might want to come to use over Zenit if we're offering the same money.

If we offer the same money as you say. Financially we cannot compete with oil rich owners of Zenit. Not building the stadium in the 90s has cost us dearly and I am not sure there is a way back unless we get a sugar daddy or have a different type of ownwership like Barca for example. I keep hearing that FSG has a long term plan but honestly, I don't know what it is and what are the milestones to know if we are on track.
