While I know Dunk is right on 95% of things Liverpool related, I think he has got everybody jumping to conclusions on this one.
Dont get me wrong, im just as [oops] as the next person that we didn't get a striker in on deadline day.
But why immediately pin the blame on FSG? I think that it definitely needs to be either FSG or Ayre, but why go on a which hunt when no one outside of LFC knows what really happened?
The media and interviews of BR have lead us to believe the following in relation to deadline day:
- BR was working on a budget. - BR sold players to raise capital for previously bought players and purchases on deadline day. - Dempsey wanted to join us. - Carrolls loan departure was not of BR's choice.
So from these (please provide more, im bound to have ignored a tonne), how the f*ck are people able to draw conclusions that it was FSG's fault? Why not consider Ian Ayre? Or even Clint Dempsey?
I mean working from these assumptions, it seems obvious that BR was on a budget, and it would appear Ayre was the man overseeing this budget, which is most likely set by FSG. And surely, anyone who is so prolific at 'managing expectations' would be able to see what would happen if we didn't sign a striker. FSG would put up $6m to finance Dempsey, its no biggie to them. Clint may have changed his mind when spurs came in very late in the window leaving us stranded?
My conspiracy theory, like everyone else's opinion on this, is that that there wasn't any communication between Ayre and FSG on deadline day. Thats where the issue came about that we didnt have enough funds, and thats why we completely f*cked up on deadline day. But time will only tell.
On the flip side, if FSG do sack Ayre for f*cking up (scapegoat or not) we will be guaranteed a quality striker in the January transfer window. If not, I will jump on the f*ck FSG bandwagon. Remember last January we expected one, and it never came? We said we'd get one in the summer window... No matter what way you look at it, 3 strikers out and 1 in in this window is not good enough. This is a professional football club, and there is no excuse for the sh*te that went down yesterday, when our manager was expecting at least one of his targets to be delivered and he got none.

We will get a loan striker in January.
It's cheaper Superb Dunc. On the pulse as always. Good one shaggy If Drogba has been released it is an absolutely no brainer as a get out of jail card as long as he can play tikka wonga or whatever it is.

The good thing about January at this stage is that there are actually quite a few decent strikers that are on the final year of their contracts. Meaning that if they are still in that position come Jan, then we might be able to get them for a decent price.
Players like Huntelaar, Ayew and Llorente are on the final year. Maybe we could offer 10mil, which is more than what they would be going for six months later just to stop them going somewhere else, we could give them certain playing time too.
At least Rodgers has time to figure out what he needs. Even though he knew we needed a striker.

Great video dunk! Absolutley agree on the points made.. How liverpool football club cannot conjure up 5/6 mill for a player the manager wants is beyond me! No time to sulk though we have to keep in contention of 4th by the time jan comes!

Good shout Dunc t be honest. Pretty much agree with all o that. Dempsey's no big fish really , but when you can't stump up 5 or 6 mill for a much needed striker then there's summat wrong at LFC. Went t work on Saturday am in a foul mood after reading about the debacle.
I half wonder however whether Martin Jol had summat t do with it after we (allegedly) tapped up the guy weeks earlier. That's the only conclusion I can come to....what's even more sickening is that some dumb f*%k in the US had the audacity and sheer blindness t post on the FSG website that we'd signed him all those weeks back - WE LOOK LIKE COMPLETE IDIOTS
Probably like you Dunc , I grew up in the 70s n 80s in Northern England sporting the red shirts of the LFC dominant force and we never played for nor accepted second place. LFC play t win EVERY game and finish top of the premier league in my book. If we can't do that then I just have t handle that somehow...
I'd been content n happy t give FSG time and to withold my opinion of em , but no more.
And as you mentioned of course , Ayre has just bit the bullet. The only saving grace is that Rodgers didn't throw the towel in after not receiving the slim financial backing he was obviously expecting. Weaker minded managers would have.
Let's move on after this debacle n beat Arsenal today. Rant over , feel better n still Red til am dead.
Have a Magners!

its either that or dont work. look we havent even played a game since the transfer window and its a nuclear fallout.
i know i keep harping on about this but if demspey had been bought yesterday everyone would have been happy. now im sorry, but its clint dempsey. how on earth did he manage to become this mystical player that would make or break our season. Again your bringing up Dempsey when we clearly mentioned a number of times that it wasn't about Dempsey, it was about replacing the high number of departures(Carroll, Kuyt, Bellamy, Maxi) all forward players that have been replaced by Morgan, Yesil and Pachecho, players who will not score 10 goals combined. When Suarez goes down, you can kiss winning points goodbye because no one will score the goals, Suarez as it is isn't really a goalscorer so imagine what we will be like without him. Its about replacing the forwards that have left. Rodgers mentioned that 2 bodies will arrive a couple hours before the window closed but nothing arrived.
