Champions League your havin a laff as far as am concerned. I totaly agree with somebodies point in that he is definately using us as a stepping stone there again any player with his salt would do exactly the same thing, just the way of the football world now.

Well thats cheered me up no end. Is it worth carrying on? Whats life all for?

Fookin el Ged, not everything has an ulterior motive. Go hug a puppy or something.

You cynicism and pessimism are consistent. I will give you that.

If we dont strive to finish as high up the table as possible then why enter the league at all?

If we dont try to get into the Top 4 and make the Champions League places then we have died as a football club.

You have slated Suarez mercilessly on here and then when he scores on Sunday the best you can manage was he wont score goals like that every week.

We are allowed to have hopes and ambitions and our display on Sunday showed that maybe we aren't as naieve as you think we are.

Unfortunately I think you would be happier if we finished 8th than if we finished 4th as you could come on here and say "I told you so"

I continue to respect your opinion, however I just dont agree with it.

You have hit the nail there Shaggydog football is about hope without that its nothing. Every football supporter in the land hopes for success. But there has to be an element of realism if I support Bury Town its not likely we will win the champions league. But 4th place for Liverpool is a realistic goal in the aspirational sense. I for one will be supporting my team with that aim in mind I know no other way.

I also read it as just another negative slant. If Sahin plays well and gets us into the CL, he could well stay, even if he doesn't, just getting us there is enough for me. If we do get there, BR would have done such a great job, Sahin will probably see the direction the clubs going. If he moves on, but gets us CL, we will be able to attract better players anyway (then we would otherwise).

We finished 8th last year so I wouldn't expect him to stay if we finished 6-8th. I just want improvement under BR and am optimistic we'll get it.

stanley it's a fine line between hope and reality, just dont see any sense in aiming beyond our means as it leads to disapointment and false hope. If you are going to aim for the top four then why not aim for the Premiership it's self as for me we have the same chance of getting either, none.
When you have expectation levels beyond your means it creates unessasary pressure, look at the West Brom game, for me there is nothing to much in between the teams at the Hawthorns, if I had money on it I would of predicted a keenly fought draw, now look at some of the posters on here they were all saying because we are Liverpool we should win the game comfortably or it's only West Brom we should wipe the floor 2 or 3 nil, now when the result came through and we got beat there was quite a few on here saying Rogers is out of his depth, he is not the man for us, we should of appointed a bigger name e.t.c. this is where it becomes dangerous with unrealistic expectation levels and why Clubs go through so many managers. I dont think we have a hope in hell's chance of getting in the top four, the club is not rich enough, the manager does'nt have suffiecnt funds and the players we have are nowhere near good enough, my opinion, now you just wait and see what happens on here if we dont make the top four, there will be people wanting Rogers gone and calls for Benitez and Dalglish.

Wiining the prem is unrealistic ged in fact I can't see how we will ever win it without something fundamental changing on the clubs finances. The champions league though is different that is a realistic aspiration in fact I would like to bet Henry and co are expecting it either this season or next. The rival for us is Arsenal and they are better than us at the moment but I feel we are on the up and there are question marks over them. So its all to play for. I know I will never convince you but there it is.

With Chelsea's signings, they're up there with Manu and City, after that, Arsenal and Spurs are arguably weaker and Newcastle/Everton arguable over-achieved. Given the change in personal, if BR get's things together quickly, and add's before the window closes, we have as much chance of 4th as any of those teams, in my opinion of course.

No chance many liverpool fans will call for Rafa let alone Kenny if we don't make top 4, most people are optimistic yet realistic too given the lack of big funds and time to put his own side together. Others are just pessimistic for the sake of it.

It is called trying to make progress, for some reason Ged thinks it is a waste of time.

stanley, Arsenal have been better than us virtualy every season since we last won the league, nearly 25 years ago mate, they have better teams, better manager, more money when they want to spend it that is and a bigger stadium, more revenue and a whole better infilstructure so if you are targeting there place as the weakest of the top four we are in serious trouble, by the way I agree with you that Arsenal probably are the weakest of the big four clubs but it does'nt change anything something in the game has to change in order to make it a more level playing field if we were to get a chance of going back into the top four.
