Anyone been watching the footie at the olympics? I've been very impressed with the football on show especially from Brazil. Looking forward to Luis beating the brits ( sorry lads :D)

p.s. stanley and others, this is not a thread to cry about the financial problems the this brings to Britian. smile

Lets hope Suarez bags a few.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but hosting the Olympics has never (ok, very seldom) been a profitable enterprise for the hosts. If you thought that would be a problem you shouldn't have put your name in the hat.

Dunno what they r saying in uk but its 'been noticed' that the arenas offer very little space for spectators but the buildings or malls which contain the pitches/pools are huge with thousands of shops all over the place. Wouldnt suprise me if the uk long term made money out of it although as thunder says it usually costs more than the benefit reaped

Whatever about making money out of it, the development will do wonders for that depressed part of, south east London, so maybe money well spent, after all life is not all about profit, or at least it shouldn't be

Annefield we could have give everybody in south east london a million pounds it would still have been far cheaper than the olympics. What a waste of money at a time the country has no money. We could have spent that £14 billion on infrasture roads, railways, power stations and created millions of jobs. Instead we have thrown it in the bin.
