Thompson was a good man to have on the staff but is no manager. I bet we would be getting up for matches more if he was still there shouting his head off in the dug out.

Getting rid of Rafa will cost a lot of money but will have to happen at some point as the team have clearly gone as far as they're going to with him at the helm. Perhaps the club could force his resignation by employing an assistant, against Rafa's wishes, but in such a way that charges of constructive dismissal etc could still be avoided. It's sad to be discussing the situation in this way but I can't see any way forward. Critically, the players have lost confidence in him and this must represent a point of no return.

Problem is that his departure would leave a problem of, probably greater magnitude, in place.

i have sat on the fence for the whole of this reason regarding rafa

But i have leap off now and have decided that a change is defo needed.

I am sorry the tactics where poor from such a master tactician, Dossena on the wing your having a laugh. Again with the monster and Lucas in the middle (why was i shocked by this he has done it all season even though it don't work).

i do believe that players dont have faith in his tactics or what he is trying to do and the club needs fresh direction. i mean even in the last season with the frenchman we finished 4th and i do recall being this bad.

i for one wouldnt mind us spending a summer's transfer budget on sacking benitez and just bring up our very good youngsters pacheco ecclestone amoo kelly spearing ayala oh and give ryan babel the right wing and tell him he is a good player give him the confidence he needs and we could make million and millions off our useless players like dossena (never needed him) kuyt skrtel riera voronin lucas because i hate looking at our first team and seeing kuyt and lucas (who has improved but still doesnt do anything good) and then looking at our bench and seeing aureilo skrtel and dossena none of witch will ever change or effect a game in a possitive way i like benitez and i hope he does well as a manager in his next job but losing to portsmouth the way we did today was the last straw for me

Of the managers already in the Prem then I think O Neill stands out a mile. He has prtoven himself in the League, knows how to get the best out of a team while working on a budget, seems to be able to find decent players in the transfer markets, and also appears to be able to motivate his teams.

The oher managers in the Prem that might fit the bill would be 'Arry, but as mentioned earlier he does seem to flit between clubs a bit.

Foreign managers that could do the job would be Mourinhio - great man management skills and knows how to build a strong team ethis, and Gus Huddink who instilled in Chelsea great sense of belief when they were on the rails.
