Just seen the news that Cardiff City are changing there home Colours from Blue to Red and also changing there Club Crest, there fans are in uproar.
I think it's now becoming clear that if you have enough money then anything can be bought wether it's the name of the stadium, name of the team, Club colours or anything.
I think this sort of thing is of major interest to us as we have owners who are here to make a fast buck, I honestly think we are definately in line to have a change of name, stadium and also play home games in other countries a bit further down the line.

Is a change of name not a bit far fetched? And what is the issue with a change of stadium? Cardiff aren't a global brand like Liverpool are and the idea of changing the colours or name of Liverpool wouldn't be in anyones interest

THe fact is football is becoming more commercial every year particularly clubs like Liverpool who have a global presence. Tradition will by definition increasing take a back seat except where it can sell the brand such as YNWA which is a nice marketing tool. However there was a facinating article in the sunday times colour suppliment about sunderland. Did you know the population of Sunderland is 178,000 and the club consistently get 40,000 the club has almost not out of area support like Liverpool nor is it a global brand in Malaysia / China they have never heard of Sunderland. I just thought it was an amazing statistic nearly a quarter of the city went to the games.

In relation to above point I checked season ticket prices at Sunderlands they are about half those of Liverpool £425 vs £780 at Liverpool.

what one person considers the clubs tradition will be different to another. for example, didn't lfc orignally wear blue and white? the mancs had green and yellow. the flames for the 96 are no longer on the crest but are on the back of the jersey (will this always be the case?)

i think around half of the clubs in the prem are foreign owned. most first team players from the top clubs are foreign. the grounds are called the emirates, the etihad etc

alot of traditions are already extinct. in supporting lfc (even though it has the same name), we are supporting a very different thing to when most of us started supporting. we are essentially supporting an american owned club, with mostly imported players, who are competing against other offshore owned corporate giants.

i'm not saying i'm all for this but alot of traditions left the epl a long time ago and i'm pretty much resigned to it changing even further.

as stan says, a season tic is £780. it was once traditional for dad's to bring kids to a match. i wonder how many ordinary people can afford that?

it's really a situation where the owners are getting ordinary fans to pay for their business plans (aggressive marketing, stadium plans etc).

There can't be many clubs that have stuck with the same colours throughout history. Nothing wrong with a bit of change.

Not only that, us fans also pay for the players' over the top wages!

This is in fact one of the biggest reasons why all clubs more and more need to focus on the finances! Buying players and drop feeding them their gigantic wages!

This means the clubs must squash as much dough as possible out of the fans and the sponsors - or the club's dead - bang just like that!

yeah i agree with you. the burning question is the reason for that change though. it's one thing changing team colours but cardiff have done that and changed their crest for in exchange for £100m. that amount of money would be enough to move them from perennial paly off contenders to perennial 14/15/16 place in the prem.

cardiff fans are going nuts.

don't know what the parallel would be for us? what do you reckon? could be a question of "would you have liverpool play in blue, have the crest changed to a lion in exchange for 200m?". i'd say i'd prbably be against it
