I like this Rodgers fellow more and more! First line of business to move big mouth on. Was never a big fan. Wish him well but we're better without him giving the ball away every time he touched it.

Not wishing to put anyone down but this is good business and I say that as a fan of Kuyt.

What people must realise is that since Bosman rules came into play all players can leave for free at the end of their contract. As years pass by clubs wanting to keep players tend to renegotiate contracts by adding extensions and clauses. This is great when you want to keep a player of a certain age and stop them joining a rival team for nothing. It also allows the club to protect itself against paying out massive wages to players who when they become a certain age are less likely to be real assets to the team. For the player it allows them one last big payday at a convenient point for themselves and the chance to carry on playing for longer for a top flight team. The country they play in is probably not an issue but a lot of players late in their careers are ending up in Turkey where they can still get a good salary.

The fact is that they are likely to get more games, play for longer and are less of a burden to their clubs because they did not cost a lot in transfer fees. For Fenerbahce it is good business as Kuyt has a good fitness record compared to many of his age.

For Liverpool the opportunity is now there to bring a new player in or promote from within. There are players who will now be considered like Aquilani or Cole as there is now a definite space in the first team squad as a nailed on regular in the match day 18 has moved on.

Realistically for the fans although we will miss him we have to think of the future and what the plan for that is. Any player who is not going to play a fully active part in say two or three years time will probably be moved on now. The exception will be Gerrard for the things that others can learn from him. The time is coming for us not to carry dead wood year after year and keep players past their best just because they might be useful in the Carling Cup or the Europa League.

Given the way the new manager wants to play I really think this may be the time to push Johnson into midfield and bring Kelly in as first choice right back. The real replacement for Kuyt has to be a striker not a poor right winger.

Good luck Dirk. I am sure that you will be a success in Turkey.

Good luck, Dirk. Will miss the hard work and long miles you've put in for LFC, and my only regret is that you didn't win more with us.

All the best for the future.

I am a massive admirer of Dirk Kuyt. He is a team player of the highest order. He scored 70+ goals in over 250 games, but he never played much in the position we bought him in, as an out and out striker. In Holland there was something of the Fowler about him. He never had the pace and link up play but he was damn good at scoring goals. I will welcome Dirk back with open arms when he returns and I wish him every success in Turkey. This is a player that never hid from a challenge. YNWA Kuyt.

Kuyt played same position for Dutch, Kubrick so being played out of position not his flaw. His technique was. People keep saying he was a great servant but don't hear anybody say he was a great player?! We did well getting him off wage bill.

I will miss Kuyt. He is a hard worker and his goal in the FA Cup at Anfield against Man U this past season is one I'll remember forever.

Best wishes to him.

read somewhere that LFC wanted him to stay but he wants regular footy which Fenerbache might have assured.
