---------reina----
Glenn--Skirtll--Agger--JE
----------Lucas----------
------Suarez--Gerrard--
--new-----------------new--
-----------Carroll---------

Didn't put Suarez in a wide forward role because the position needs running and dribbling with pace, he is a great dribbler but not great at running with the ball, but his close control, good short passing and pressing are great for the AM position.

Carroll's lack of pace will not be a big problem if the other 2 forwards are great runners.

For the 2 new positions the best for them in the market are Lavazzi, Erekson, Suarez#2, Krasic

I'd like to see:

-------------Reina--------
Glenn---Skrtl---Agger---JE
-----------Lucas----------
--NEW--Gerrard/Aqua--New--
-----Suarez----------------
----------------Carrol----

With the new wingers being Adam Johnson and Junior Hoilett, and possibly if we did sign sigurdson, he could play the Gerrard/Aquilana role

THIS IS HIS PHILOSOPHY:

In the simplest terms, Rodgers wants his team to get hold of the ball as quickly as possible and then keep it. I spent a couple of hours in his office at the Liberty Stadium last season when he talked me through the logic behind his tactics, derived from various sources but especially inflected with the Barcelona way.
One of the key points he made is that your initial formation — say 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 — matters less than what that translates to on the pitch. When going forward, the best way to move the ball up the field is to create angles of diagonal pass. If you have two banks of four across defence and midfield there are no diagonal passes on. The system needs to be more fluid.
So Rodgers seeks to create as many ‘lines’ across the field as possible. In his system you have a minimum of seven lines. He wants his goalkeeper to be part of the play, then the centre backs, then what he calls the ‘controller’ (a deep-lying playmaker), then the full-backs pushed on, the two attacking midfielders, the wingers and then the centre-forward. That allows you to draw seven horizontal lines across the pitch.
Through coaching, Rodgers ensures that every player knows his place in this system. When a player receives the ball he should always have at least two options for an ‘out’ pass. He gives the players confidence to make those passes by taking the blame on himself when it does not come off.
When the ball is lost, his players seek to win it back quickly by pressing high up the field. This means reacting as a unit and nobody shirking their duty. Winning the ball back quickly creates openings in a disorganised opponent, especially when it happens near their goal. The team as a whole need to know when to press like this, and hold a high line, and when to drop deep and absorb the opponents’ efforts to break them down.

My feeling is that Rodgers' style is fairly well suited to Liverpool. Players like Henderson could blossom here, and Enrique and Agger love trying to play the ball from the back. But I feel that may not suit SG as much, and definitely won't suit "Hollywood" Adam or Carragher.

We will/should keep Carroll because he gives us an alternate way to play, gives us options, and options are what make a good team great. Barcelona are a one-dimensional side, it's just that their one dimension is so well rehearsed and formidable that plan B isn't necessary. But we've seen them come unstuck a few times this season when plan A hasn't worked against the opposition on the day, and they simply haven't had an answer to that.

Rodgers believes in passing, in pressing, in a high line, in not hoofing it - all attributes that Liverpool aspire to. As long as he can win the fans over and keep motivating the team as the season progresses, then the support of a strong scouting network and the youth coming through should enable him to be successful with this club. I feel he's the better appointment were the choice between him and Martinez, not because I don't think Martinez couldn't do it, but because he is more interested in the way the game is played rather than simply using a system that is trending in Europe.

--------------REINA--------------

JOHNSON--AGGER--SKRTEL--ENRIQUE

-------GERRARD---LUCAS----------

--------------AMC?---------------

RW?------------------------SUAREZ

-------------CARROLL-------------

think suarez will be thrown out wide personally, our front 3 has to be deadly. sure is dangerous from this position for uruguay and being the dynamic player that he is will be fine playing this role. personally i'd like to us grab a natural pacey winger for the right hand side to improve our attack.

would love to see us grab siggurdson to play in the AMC role, if not gerrard can play there. we just need another all action player in midfield who is creative. raul meireles would have suited this perfectly. bringing in another player similar to him will be what we need.

be interesting to see what he does with cole and aquilani, both seem to be able to fit into his system

Except maybe that Suarez plays on the right for Uruguay? So if he goes right, and we keep Downing on the left, surely our front 3 is sorted barring some depth in the 3 positions (Bellamy, Kuyt, Sterling notwithstanding)?

Also, Gerrard must attack. It's not in him to defend, though he likes to think it is. He's better at attacking the goal or crossing the ball - two attributes we missed from the team in general all of last season.

either side will do for suarez. if sinclair can play left wing cutting in on his right and be effective theres no reason why suarez can't be. even when he's playing as a lone striker or alongside carroll in a front 2 you'll still see him attacking from wide positions.

think this year is crunch time for downing, don't expect him to be in the first 11 if we bring another attacking player in. so he will certainly have to pull his socks up. could be his last year at the club. unless we decide to cut our losses on him now, i doubt that will happen though considering how much we payed for him.

i agree gerrard should maybe play a more attacking role. but can he effect the game the way he used to be at his age? plus when the aim of the game is to control possession theres no better passer of the ball than him at the club currently. unless we bring in a creative midfield player.
