Happy, now that we have named a manager, I can return to the forums. Exciting time for LFC. I feel like this is the real start of FSG's ownership. I expect the team and tactics to be drastically different than previous years, especially last year.
I'm satisfied, ill get behind the guy. Does anyone have stats on how many of our previous managers came here with achievements behind them. People seems to basing their argument on a lack of trophies and achievements as a manager I'm sure we have promoted internally managers whom had no previous experience as a manager let along any trophies. Back then we used to give people a chance and get behind them from day one but it seems since success we feel we have the divine right to get top managers despite finishing outside the top 4 for couple of years or so. Gonna back him 100% though it maybe in vain with some fans doing all they can to protest or cut the guy down. If it was fans from other clubs I could understand, but this club???
I wouldn't say these were exciting times. Exciting would be if we had appointed a proven gut at the very top of the game. Mourinho, Guardiola. Champions League would be taken for granted and we'd be talking about challenging for the title.
Slightly below that be a few others - we'd be talking about challenging top 4 straight away.
We have Rodgers - unproven at the top level in any league. So it's quite a gamble and the feeling is one of apprehension, relief perhaps that it wasn't an even lesser name. Talk is about not expecting much in first season... and 'if he does well we might do this that and the other...'. i.e. it's more hope than expectation.
That's not to say we won't support him and give him a chance... we just won't be expecting much but will hope to be very pleasantly surprised.
