he'll come good when the likes of downing actually cross the ball in the air for him. not along the floor like we did all season.

still try and sell him if we can get a decent price. never be good enough. and he gets worse if he isn't playing week in week out..and yes mcgeady looked class, would buy him and long as soon as possible.

None in the league, a few in the cups. I believe you were trying to make a point? Downing always played better on the left, but Dalglish always preferred him on the right, and it took 6 months for Andy Carroll to come to life (the only reliable cross target in the squad other than Maxi). Next season will almost certainly be better for both players as long as the manager regularly picks them to play the same game.

Yep I was making the point that we need wingers who cross from the byline. not pass the ball in field or back to the fullback at every opportunity.

And in the games Downing played on the left (when he would actually be able to cross from the byline given that he's almost as left-footed as Reira [ie can't do anything with his other foot]) and Carroll was not on the pitch, who would he aim at again? I think most people are overly harsh on Downing without considering that what he was bought to do and what the manager wanted from him were different things entirely. If a player deployed as an inverted winger reaches the byline and regularly puts in a decent cross then he is surely one of the best players in the world...

If you can't work out that asking a left-footed player to play on the right will reduce his chances of hitting the byline and making a cross and potentially an assist, then you need help.

He is a futter with little end product and about as dangerous as an overdose of smarties.

If Carroll is given a chance and some support next season he will cause havoc.
