If he cant get a team of average players much above the relegation zone for nearly all the season, whats he going to do with a liverpool team that has half a team of average players, deffo not going to be top 4

agreed deakin, fsg have set their benchmark, kd had 1.5 seasons to get top4 and got the chop as he didn't get top4, martinez has got maybe 1, no more than 2 seasons to do it, if lfc finish bottom half of table he is gone, if they are lingering in 17th position half the season (à la hodgson) he will be gone in 6 mths

Ahh lads listen to yourselves.

Illusions of grandeur on here.

One, maybe one and a half seasons to go from 8th and pathetic form to Top 4 or he's out.

Do you honestly think that is the conversation he had with the owners.

I pray they are not that deluded.

Give the man a chance IF he's appointed and have some patience.

You are confusing 2 aspects shaggydog. The fact that fsg are ruthless in management selection and firing does not mean that we dont support whoever they put in charge. FSG shouldnt be the subject of conversation as it should be the quality of the football and the results that count.
He (martinez) will be lucky if he gets more than one year and doesnt get 4th spot. That doesnt mean that people would nt support him. ITs fsg the fudgepackers . Remember, it seems clear that kd was heading for the knackers yard even if he had won 2 finals, for a team that hasnt won a trophy for 6 years. You think that martinez will get kid gloves treatment?

Who knows he may be the manager we have needed all this time.

Everyone thinks just because your a so called 'big name' manager then that guarantees you success then your wrong.

How many big names have Chelsea brought in and didn't do well?

Wigan beat all the top teams this season, but no-one expected that?

Our problem is consistancy, there are over 30 games in a season and we haven't had a manager to get the team ready to battle against the lesser teams. Maybe this is what Martinez can bring to the table.

People being all doom and gloom should be dissappointed in themselves as the truth is no one knows what the outcome will be.

How many players have we brought in a thought 'yes this is a quality signing' and ended up being rubbish. This could and has happened with other managers.

We are not a team that has billions to spend but Martinez knows how to beat teams on a budget so who knows, if he can bring consistency you might see liverpool creep up the table.

Absolutely - the only flipping reason RM is even considered a good manager is coz DW keeps mouthing on about how he's 'best young manager in Europe' blah blah blah.

I think he just wants shut of him, but wants someone to pay him compensation....

I think Rodgers declined the approach we made because he feared a return to Swansea as a failed candidate.
How our interest in him became public is beyond me. As has been pointed out on here already, he has a more impressive record than Martinez and they are comparable candidates. Had he been approached more discretely without the risk of his embarrassment and without the talk of interviewing big names etc, he might have been more interested. I must admit that amongst the list of dream appointments that we were linked with, Rodgers didn’t look quite stellar enough, but I’d thought for a while that he’d be our best shout for a long term appointment. It’s all very well playing great football to avoid relegation but how much does Martinez allow his players to short change him if every year he’s in a relegation dogfight?
If there’d been no discussion (in the media) at all and Rodgers had been unveiled I’d have been quite confident about our future. I think he will do well at another big club and we’ll have missed out – chiefly as a result of a bungled recruitment process. Disappointing.
Hope I’m wrong.
