because he is the manager of a wigan team who despite turning it on against the bi guns, were very inconsistent. his side finished just outside the relegation zone. what sets him aside from other managers that we are having him?

we may as well have picked a name out of a hat. sorry lads, but this is a load of bolx and ridiculously risky.

So relative to Rodgers, Martinez looks worse. Relative to Steve Bruce, he also looks worse. Bruce finished 11th, MArtinez 16th.

Bruce is hardly a world class manager of the type we need, so what are the extenuating circumstances at Wigan that make it CLEAR Martinez is doing a great job? Why would you choose him over Rodgers or Bruce, or someone with a relly good track record?

Whilst not exactly delighted myself I can offer some defense of Martinez. He plays the brand of football we crave and has for several years now built a strong philosophy around this and never waivered even when faced with relegation - that took balls. He changed Swansea top to bottom amd Brendan Rodgers benefitted from it and carried it on. Bruce/Hodgson/Pulis/allardyce will all produce teams which are functional for the league and no more, they produce percentage football and mid table is acceptable to them, rarely do their teams 'wow' or try and dominate possession -quite the opposite. So my point is they may often get more points than a Wigan but its ultimately not succesful for bigger clubs.
Liverpool will dominate possesion in most games they play so Martinez philosophy should in theory work better with better players. He has a track record of improving average players Technically and we will need that, can he take us up that next level I am not so sure.

I think we will be entertained but he will desperately need to get more out of Henderson/Carroll/Downing/Adam if ultimately he is to be succesful. Singing players maybe his weakness, although Moses and McCarthy are excellent.

i know all we can do is speculate, but to be honest that is very speculative CP. totally respect your opinion mate but i think if i was a liverpool player and martinez was the new manager there would be three words in my head. "ah fuuck this"

but it clear you dont rate him and in that case you dont want him and want him out , i suspect you are one of the ones who has signed the petition or gearing youself up to hound out martinez starting in the first EL game .

excuse me faz, get your house in order and dont accuse me of being some militant loon just because i dont agree with yourt point, bang out of order.

here's a quote from the koptalk newspage that i share views with and might clarify my point:

If Martinez takes the job, we will of course be behind him. But we're not going to lie and say we're happy about it. While it is true that great managers have to start somewhere, the last thing Liverpool need right now is a student.
It's a huge gamble and the sacking of Dalglish makes no sense to us now. It would have been a gamble retaining the King but a like-for-like scenario swap is bizarre in our opinion and completely stinks.

undoubtedly it was a 'thin' argument and not one I will stand by in terms of 'he will be great'. I can see some logic though just feel that it's too soon for RM and their are better candidates out there. If he fails then it could ruin us and him

How come we've apparently got average/good managers turning us down left right and centre, yet West Brom are having talks with Claudio Ranieri!?
