Under Martinez:
Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger
Johnson Gerrard Lucas Enrique
Bellamy Carroll Suarez

Could work? While it can easily become 5-4-1 if the wide players can't get it in their heads to let the back 3 and Lucas sort out the opposition, it could be interesting tactically. Many have wondered whether Johnson would be a better right midfielder. Many have recognised that we have a good collection of centre backs, and many have thought about 3 at the back because Agger, Carragher, and Kelly all have significant experience playing at fullback, even Dalglish (though he used a 3-5-2 that was closer to 3-6-1 than 3-4-3).

Shankly changed us from a back 3 to a back 4, perhaps this could be the way forward for LFC - to change the rules of the game again, and get the march on the rest of the league?

Just throwing it out there - what worked for Wigan may not be a match for LFC, but it could just... I'm not Martinez's biggest supporter for the managerial role, but at least he brings something interesting to the table. Whether he is signed, whether he tries 3-4-3, and whether it works are of course all uncertain.

Discuss!

After months of sparring we're finally in agreement!

Lol, I'm surprised you took so long to understand you two have a mutual disregard for Benitez. grin

What happens when people figure out how to counter that formation,if it works, Like when Ancelloti was at Chelsea and it was there downfall for that season

It depends on how good the manager is at thinking on his feet of course. It also depends on how good the players are at adapting, and with Johnson and Enrique (who seem naturally suited to wingback play) and Agger and Kelly at the back (with Skrtel and Agger an accomplished CB pairing), a shift from 3-4-3 to a back 4 should provide no dramatic headaches, especially with Lucas in the middle.

2 CL Finals, CL trophy, FA Cup winners, 2nd in the league, CC winners...and you call that failure? Sorry, but you are a wind up merchant....

Can we afford another bad league season after the one we've just had?

This aint a time for doubt and risk, its about time we bring in an a-grade proven manager, this should be FSG's priority to justify why they sacked Kenny in the first place.

If we bring in a proven manager and we have a bad season, then we'll just have to hold our hands up. But if we bring in a Martinez or a Rodgers and its a failure after 6 months, then we will be asking ourselves what could of been again, had we appointed the best man for the job.

At this moment in time, it is honestly not Martinez or Rodgers, we are building, we are not set and steady yet, we've got to get there first, those aren't the men to do that. They are ready made for a club thats steady at the top, not one that craves to get back up there.

If Martinez comes in i reckon i would like to see him line up something like;

Reina
Skrtel Agger Enrique
Johnson Lucas Adam Downing
Suarez Gerrard Carroll

Obviously Gerrard playing behind Carroll and Suarez.

Would rather we went for an experianced manager, either Benitez or if they don't wont to go back Capello.
