Does anyone truly believe that if Martinez was appointed that the players would be thrilled? In all honesty everyone says that the players should just get on with the job but if you were a player playing for a big club that has just appointed a coach that has struggled to keep his team from going down will you be filled with the confidence that he is the right man to take you forward... i truly believe it will be Roy all over again! it wouldnt be that martinez is even a bad coach, it would come down to the fact that he just would simply not command the respect of the players like a proven coach would.. transfers will also play a big part, how many big name players will want to join liverpool to play under martinez..i can say not many! liverpool cant sell the dream anymore, its not the club it was, players want to win and know they will challenge for titles. if martinez cant attract the big name players in his first year then he has to work miracles with the squad he has..if he doesnt work miracles and get us challenging then say goodbye to the year after that aswell cause then there definately wont be big name buys!!

my point is we need a proven manager who big name players want to play for and who commands respect! of all the managers mentioned only Rafa fits that bill, and to a lesser extent i think AVB can get away with it!

Thats my rant, feel free to join in

I fail to see the fascination with AVB? He royally [oops] up Chelsea, made the majority of the players hate him. Did well in Portugal, but his successor proved it's not hard to win the league with Porto.

Martinez will have to earn his respect, he is clearly tactically good enough. TBH, if he wins the first 4-5 games players will respect him, and so will the fans.
If he comes in with a good attitude, and decent training methods players will not have a problem with him.

Personally after being massively against it, I wouldn't mind giving Martinez a chance after reading a bit more about his tactics and style.

If we are going on "past success" there is ONLY one candidate that's rafa!

I think its about time the players took some responsability for there performances its there fault kenny got sacked and now its up to them to get behind there new manager whoever it maybe and crack on. I am worried about the transfers but we dont know who were looking at yet im sure the club can still attract big players. I agree that Rafa fits the bill but we do need to get away from the past managers and start a new page in liverpools history. YNWA

Have you spoken to RM about his tactics or have you read about someone's interpretation of how he sometimes sets up a team? What other managers have you discussed their tactics in detail with?

Agree with you on Rafa - by far the best option.

Why is their fault? Take henderson for example - rubbish before he signed for us, rubbish now - no one made kenny sign a rubbish player. Just because we forked out £20m it doesn't mean he's going to suddenly have £20m worth of talent in his boots. A lot of our failings came down to poor tactics, team selections, signings and substitutions. I can't think of one player who performed below his ability level last season.

Or.....let's build for the future with a manager that came within p!ssing distance of the league title despite having no support from the board and being shackled with restrictions on his signings. Did I mention the 2 x champions league finals? Damn him and his CL 'baggage'!
