...they aint doing to good in Boston with the Red Sox at the moment either, they sacked a popular manager there to, who I believe won them the big one.
I would give general manager Theo Epstein a lot more credit for winning Boston two World Series than Terry Francona. Major League Baseball managers aren't nearly as valuable to their team's success as a football manager is. He was also the manager of a team that endured one of the worst September collapses in baseball history. They started the month almost a sure-shot playoff team and they didn't make the postseason. He either lost control of the club or didn't know what was going on, which was good enough reason why he wasn't retained. The players were drinking beer in the clubhouse, ordering wings and pizza....DURING GAMES. Technically, Francona wasn't sacked. 2012 was an option year on his contract and they chose not to exercise that option. They were contractually obligated to him through 2011. But they have a history of doing it..... If your sacking managers so regularly from your sporting franchises, it tells me, it wasn't the right decision in the first place to give them the job. What if Martinez gets the job and they sack him 6 months down the line? All hell will break loose, because people are saying now why sack Kenny? Why not give Kenny another year? Why sack Kenny for Martinez? (if it happens?) Imagine if Martinez lasts 6 months.

Where is the "neither" option for this poll?
How many players will Rafa rub up the wrong way this time round? There was a constant flow of players in and out of the club under him, with many of the ones leaving saying how he was responsible.
Martinez is a n00b, nothing further to say.
Surely FSG can do better than this? Or are they happy to play the 5 year rebuild game yet again?

It's Rafa, but FSG would not touch him with a barge pole, these advisers are pulling the strings, FSG haven't got a f*cking clue. That's why they want Martinez, it ain't about where he's come from, or about him winning nothing at all. It's all about image to those yanks, "If only we had Martinez during the Suarez incident"....you can imagine it....tell me it aint so! Martinez really wants this job for his own trophy filled career, with a tear in his eye he said to Dave Whelan "It's time Dave...." and on that day he departed Wigan Athletic and jumped on a flight to Boston to give BJ's and a wink to all involved. The writing was on the wall, the ultimate yes man on a 5 year contract....it don't even matter if we get relegated as long as Roberto smiles and says yes to FSG. Sorry times lie ahead Good post Craney. You know I'm really trying to like these guys and continually hold in thought that we were apparently a day from administration when they stepped in and bought the club. Trouble is all I see is one clanger of indecision after another and no plan what so ever. You can hear these great claims about what they did at the Red Sox but I don't believe the government telling me it's all sunshine and I look out the window and it's all rain. Forget Raffa, as if the guy didn't even manage LFC or we hadn't heard of him. You have a whole world of football playing countries out there, and a club that is still a massive name and all they or their advisers can do is p*ss off every prospect as if they were going for a job as a supervisor at Tesco and identify a guy who saves a bottom 6 club from relegation!! FFS. I mean really that is where we are. I can't see how anyone can sugar coat that, but there are still people on here who are trying to. It honestly belies belief.

Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

I don't even think AVB has confidence in himself now, otherwise he would've jump to the chance to prove not just himself but everybody else that he has what it takes and wasn't given the opportunity at Chelski.

in your heart of hearts what do you honestly think about martinez?
excited or panicky?
when raffa came in he was still unproven to some degree but i was intrigued by his appointment. this is the same as appointing hodgson, the exact same. actually its a bit worse cause west brom were doing better than wigan are now. Agree, I feel the same way entirely, in fact I'm gutted he is going for more talks. The majority of fans don't want him and if he does not hit the ground running a large group of fans will be calling for his head, we don't need another manager that wont be given time from the fans etc. Like I said in another thread, he would not have been a candidate a month or two back, he is just flavour of the month due to Wigans survival again and some wins against the big clubs to do so.

None of us know who will be the manager that delivers us the holy grail(4th) but if 5yr contracts are being dished out here to me we only have to think about the gamble that has the least detrimental impact on the club, again no one knows the future but my gut feeling is we have to go for the devil we know, (Rafa) we can pick out his faults all we like but at least we know what they are already, we also know what his capabilities are too. Some will want to throw caution to the wind and take a chance on Martinez but do we want to be the guinea pig club here? I'm not sure we can afford to at this moment,I would rather see 1yr rolling contracts too, this will weed out the unattainable big names immediately as if they would come here anyway simply because there aren't enough big name players or money. I know we got kenny back and some will be thinking we've gone back and it didn't work out so we don't want to do it again,my answer to that is it did work out just not as well as we had hoped and now we need to take the next step,I'm not convinced the massive gamble of Martinez is right,i may be wrong but i don't feel comfortable with it.
Life is beautiful when you find Love when you find the place your meant to be when you find the one to give your heart to as for me this is you this is Love

HAS to be benitez. We're in no position to be taking risks with a manager who was done very little in the game and has never managed a big club - That can come later..

to me its Martinez all the way, we need fresh ideas not bringing back the past again Who's to say that martinez has fresh new ideas, or that our experienced squad will buy into them? If Rafa's old, musty ideas can win a champions league then surely that's better then getting 'fresh' for the sake of 'freshness'? All it comes down to is who is most likely to succeed. Nothing else really matters.

I just can't get excited about Martinez. He's done nothing in the game and I fear it could be the disaster of all disasters if we take a punt on him now. I think he's possibly one for 5-10 years time when someone else has taken a gamble on him and he's actually shown himself good enough.
AVB has done a bit, albeit in a much less competative league. Fell apart when the pressure was on. Again I remain unconvinced about his credentials to lead us.
Rafa has the experience but not the mentality to return the glory years. I just can't see FSG even bothering to interview him.
Capello, The more I think about it the more I think he's the best option at this stage. even if only for 2-3 years. Maybe with JC as assistant.
All in all I really don't know whats best for the club. All I do know is they need to do something fast before we end up with another Hodgson.
