I think that he is the most qualified candidate that is both available and willing. He has a successful track record with us, and he's a winner. 3 years ago we were spanking Real Madrid in the CL semi-finals. We were in a totally different class than we are now. Rafa has the tactical acumen and the eye for talent that Kenny lacks. The only 3 viable candidates I see are AVB, Rafa, and Capello.

I'd accept any of those 3, Rafa being my preference, but AVB could be a great signing and maybe more likely given the way people feel FSG wouldn't hire Rafa, and are looking for youth.

Yes Rafa would be a good manager for us but FSG will not employ a outspoken manager who will rub the media up the wrong way.

I love Rafa but he was not on the best of terms with the media and FSG are very PR orientated.

For that reason Rafa will not be the new manager.

AVB and Martinez are both clean cut and media friendly

Team player. If the rest of the team is not pulling in the right direction for the long term good of the club, shouldn't the manager have the conviction to voice out? End of the day his head is on the chopping board for bad performances.
You don't see Rafa voicing out at Valencia during their hey days. Only when financials started to be a problem, then the board started to be more concerned with balancing the books rather than keep the club competitive. And thus, the table leg and lamp shade analogy.
Pre H&G, pool was doing rather well. Then came the pair. That's when things started to go wrong. Financials were out of whack and they started to interfere in football matters. Funds were limited and Rafa was left to carry the bucket.
On to Inter. Jose left an aging team. Then injuries started to pile up and inter struggled to cope. Again the board ignored the signs of decline and refused to invest.
So they parted ways with Rafa. Till now, inter has not done enough to refresh the team and turnaround results even with new managers.

So I believe Rafa is simply a man of conviction and principals that knows exacting what's needed to be successful. It's just his 'luck' that football owners nowadays are not as in tune to football matters, mostly concerned over money and politicking.
To say FSG won't consider Rafa cos he's not a 'team' player, well depends what sort of team they're trying to build.
Every manager being approached has a chance to be appointed.
A YES man is also a team player.

bit of revionist history there imo.

one thing i always hated about rafa was his willings to say anything to support his ego and reputation. i mean that thing at valencia the lamp crap thats a disgracful thing to say. what other managers would call players crap in public. nobody with any decency, imagine kenny saying i wanted so and so but they gave me crap. this is part of the reason rafa is out of the game now, nobody actually likes him. his rep is in tatters

Rafa's football acumen was never the issue. He was tactically superior to all of his opponents. During his time here, his tactics would be copied in dealing with stronger teams. I remember Chelsea were running wild until they played Liverpool, and then everybody knew how to play Chelsea. He worried opposition managers so much that had to resort to really ugly mind games. Unfortunately, Rafa was ill equipped to deal with the emotional abuse.

Rafa the man had issues for sure, but if he has learned from his past and mistakes there in no doubt in my mind that he will come back a far better manager.

your obviously not the type of fan i was talking about. you can obviously see the good and bad points of rafas reign but so many only want to see the bad. sure he was frustrating at times with team selections and tactics, and some times the football they played was boring but his teams were always competitive! i will support whoever comes in as manager, but at the same time i dont think bringing rafa back is a backward step!

i would say he was tactically superior to teams that had better players than us. when it came to inferior sides he usually didn't have the answers. hence why we were out of the league b4 xmas nearly every season he was here and why we got knocked out of cups by crappy sides when he was in charge.

yeh but we didnt exactly have a great squad of players and therefore he couldnt be competitive in all the cups while he played some fringe players..i do recall some thrashings in the prem league we gave teams though, 4-0 5-0 6-0... what id give for those days to come back! those are the games we would have lost last season!
