Now I know for certain that you know nothing. You don't suppose that LFC being one of the toughest teams to break down in the league and had the most clean sheets for 3 consecutive seasons had anything whatsoever to do with zonal marking? Put down the newspaper and open your eyes. We conceded goals using zonal marking - other clubs conceded goals using other forms of marking. I would never have expected that! Let me save you some trouble and spell it out, even though you hate stats because they disprove your argument.
04/05 - W17 D7 L14 GF52 GA41 GD11 Points 58, 5th in league, CL title, league cup SF (5th fewest goals against in league)
05/06 - W25 D7 L6 GF57 GA25 GD32 Points 82, 3rd in league, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup (2nd fewest goals against in league)
06/07 - W19 D11 L8 GF57 GA27 GD30 Points 68, 3rd in league
(2nd fewest goals against in league)
07/08 - W21 D13 L4 GF67 GA28 GD39 Points 76, 4th in league
(3rd fewest goals against in league)
08/09 - W25 D11 L2 GF77 GA27 GD50 Points 86, 2nd in league
(3rd fewest goals against in league, most goals for in league, best goal difference)
09/10 - W18 D9 L11 GF61 GA35 GD26 Points 63, 7th in league (3rd fewest goals against in league)

Consistently 2nd or 3rd best defensive record in the league over his final 5 seasons, including the dreaded final season. Yeah, zonal marking sure did suck.

And is it really to hard to wonder whether the sense of deadness in the last two seasons had nothing to do with the owners saddling us with 45m pounds of debt each season and taking money from player sales out of the transfer budget? No! Of course everything was Rafa's fault, from the bad results to the bad tea.

nope i know the owners had loads to do with it, but i don't use that as an excuse to wipe rafa clean with like rafa excusers do. he was in charge of the football

and again u bang out the stats regards zonal much like a computer , ignoring the human side of actually watching the disaster it became and the refusal of rafa to do anything about it.

Why is appointing an ex-manager 'backsliding'? Hodgson wasn't an ex-manager and he was rubbish. Dalglish was an ex manager and was also rubbish. Their previous jobs weren't relevant to the progress that brought to the club. We'll move forward depending on the quality of the appointment, not whether he has managed at Liverpool before.

QFT! +1

I do not hate him at all, but I do not want him back, for most of the reasons mentioned above.

Of course Rafa was in charge of the football! He also oversaw a decline in the value of the squad because he simply wasn't good enough at buying cut-price players while part of his funds gained from sales went to lining the owner's pockets. But obviously in your world that just means he should have excelled less rather than revealed he was merely human? If only he had kept Djimi Traore instead of buying Dossena!

Oh, and "the disaster it became"? uh, became under who, exactly? Dalglish conceded more goals this season (40) than any season under Rafa outside his first (41). And everyone goes on about how "good" our defensive record was under Kenny! So where is this supposed disaster? I hope you don't think our defensive record under Hodgson was Rafa's fault? Cos I see you mention the deadness in terms of "seasons", when in Rafa's penultimate season we achieved our highest EPL points total EVER, handed Real Madrid their heaviest European defeat EVER, and only lost twice in the league. So clearly there was only one bad season under Rafa - and somehow you say all I have is excuses when what you have can only be described as distortions of the truth.

Stats don't tell the whole story, but they do show that we conceded fewer than a goal per game for 6 years under Benitez - and there sure aren't too many managers with what little funding he had over his final 3 seasons with anything like such a record. And somehow he did it DESPITE using zonal marking or BECAUSE he used zonal marking? Because people carry on like using zonal is utter madness and a strike against him because "it just isn't done in England" without considering that it actually worked better for us than basically any club outside Man United. So who is mad - him or his detractors? I'm not going to wait for an answer because you've got nothing other than a mind twisted by something other than what he achieved with this club under trying circumstances. You will willingly turn a blind eye to everything because he once came 7th in a much stronger league dominated by heavy spending by other clubs, when no LFC manager for the 15 years prior to his appointment had such an excellent league record up to that point. Somehow one low league finish after 2-3 seasons of null investment negates everything he achieved? Not having that, mate. I said you were a wum before, and your every post proves me correct.

lfc under houllier and evans b4 him passed to rafa a top 4 club.he finished 5th the 1st season and was out of contention for the league by xmas in all but 1 other season. houllier and evans were sacked for much less.

call me all the names under the sun and quote as many facts as u want, but the only fact worth anything is the fact that you want a man who failed us to come back.

100% correct and this is just getting forgotten which i think is so dangerous and just to add to that his last job he took italian and european champions inter milan to the brink of relegation and getting bounced out of the CL as title holders in the group stages .

I know it's frustrating when people only remember the good times, but why do people have to go to one extreme or the other.

All this talk about Rafa taking Inter to the brink of relegation - they were 6th when he was sacked, 13 points from the top with 2 games in hand. This season they finished 6th, 26 points from the top. He didn't cover himself in glory but let's be realistic.

At least try to give a balanced view instead of making stupid comments like 'he's toxic' without any kind of explanation, or repeating the line 'out of the premierleague race by xmas'.
Saying we're still trying to sort out his mess today is ridiculous.

He loves liverpool and has proven himself a top manager twice. I'm not saying it would work out but it's hardly the same as re-appointing a manager from 20+ years ago. He was manager 2 years ago and the main reason we didnt win the prem/he left was H & G.
