Martinez clearly has the charm and says all the right things. This can sway somebody looking for a new manager. If he leaves a good impression on the yanks who are known for pushing the buttons, then I just feel he's gonna get it over the others. They dont talk up quite a good game compared to Martinez.

When I say the "cheaper" option, I mean, personality's. You have to push the boat out for a Mourinho, but Martinez would quite happily do the job, no complaining, on the wage set by FSG. NOT the manager. Martinez is the ultimate yes man and nice guy, he will do his work and shut up. Something a Kenny will not do, a Rafa will not do, and a AVB might not do!

They've already axed Kenny, who took it to them, I don't think they want any part of that from a aggressive/troublesome manager this time. This could also rule out a Deschamps or a Capello!

Whelan has been banging on about Martinez for years, "Only when a big club comes in for him will we allow him to talk" etc etc etc, and apparently Martinez was with Whelan when the phonecall came in, he asked him there and then.....and Martinez said "yes".

This tells me Martinez wants this, almost like a moment with a tear in Roberto's eye "it's time Dave...it's time...." cry

If he wants it and he is talking up a charming good game, the yanks will take him as a serious serious option. You just know it! Regardless of massive amounts of success. You can sell yourself to the hilt, to the point where, only you is what matters to them, not the baggage.

For me, there are only 2, only 2 out of the entire list of candidates thrown about, who can get this job of FSG if they want it, and both of them tick all of FSG's boxes.

At this moment in time, FSG should be going all out to get an A-GRADE manager. If your going to appoint Martinez from Wigan Athletic, then tell me.....why didn't they give Kenny another 6 months? Why not?

If your gonna appoint the very best possible now to takes us forward, then I can understand the removal of Kenny! Is Martinez really that man?

Martinez ticks all of FSG's boxes, but maybe not ours.

Pep ticks all of FSG's boxes, and ours. and I don't get the impression he is an ego/money man either. wink

If Martinez is the man, then I will get behind him, with the faith that it will come good from day 1, the players love him and we are successful again, and like people have already said, the very best managers all tend to take a massive jump from a small club....this could be no different.

We will never know, unless they are given it. They might seize the oppurtunity coming from a small club and hit the ground running.

However, I have doubts of Rodgers being able to replicate the football here at Liverpool. Yes he does it at Swansea with relatively young, unknown and willing players, but can he translate that into older "stuck in ways" players here, and better players?

I don't know, so out of the two, Martinez would look more appealing, because he has a similar footballing philosphy, but even worse players at his disposal.

In all honesty, FSG should be going all out for a top manager, NO EXCUSES. You've sacked Kenny, you've got to justify that with this appointment. Bring in a Guardiola, that goes some way, if not ALL of the way of doing so. It makes sense on so many levels.

Appoint a Martinez after sacking Kenny, who many didn't want to go, then that for me, doesn't make sense, at all and FSG can start digging the hole bigger than it already is, unless of course Martinez is a revelation, they can start putting the mud back in the hole and planting the grass seeds.

You talking about the same Martin Jol who was sacked by Spurs when he navigated them into the bottom of the table? The same spurs that 'Arry took to the top 4 within 18 months? How about "No"?

Ah, I apologize to Jol then. smile I had this thing in my mind that there were primarily two problems at Spurs pre-'Arry, and they were Commolli and Jol.
