I think his handling of the press was a big factor, not forgetting the league position, he showed his time out of management by his ham fisted attempts with the press. You could tell the way he started out...cheeky chappy, smart arse answers...almost smug really. I had the feeling back then that should things go a bit awry the now fawning press corps would turn like milk in the sun. But to be fair really ..they didn't. He did it himself....visibly irked by the simplest of questions, at the most obvious of questions he had a 'how dare you question me' attitude. It was quite hard to watch him at times...we all knew the results were bad....but his reluctance to face the music after each horror show was cringing. This is all aside from the Suarez affair which understandably was very hard to handle which ever way you look at it, he had to stand up for his Star player...innocent until proven guilty (same with John Terry) but the message was not one of innocence it was one of old school batten down the hatches....siege mentality...never facing the ultimate outcome of a 'guilty' verdict and thus digging the hole deeper by the 'unproven' 'one mans word against anothers' defence which may have it's merits but is not as easy apply to 'modern day' racism incidents. This again showed 'out of touch' skills after such a long spell away from frontline management. Overreliance on and the need to prove the 'you'll never walk alone' mantra evident. To say he didn't need this on his plate is a huge understatement. Having stuck his neck out with such a high profile expensive signing as Carroll...as well as the also rans he backed for such large money, he was a dead man walking once this all failed to ignite. Suarez was in himself an adequate replacement for Torres...so why not pocket the difference...even momentarily...thus showing some savvy in the marketplace. I think he did not trust the fans to follow his lead ,fearing something of a backlash for being the one to sell Torres without truly believing that Suarez would fill his boots, so he felt like he needed more to parade as swag. Pressure must do strange things to even the most hardened in such circumstances, but for sure....Newcastle saw them coming...and widened the road to accommodate the egos approaching. The opening games at home set the tone for a season long campaign that once promised richly but petered out poorly. Highlights aside, and there were many, away wins at 'top four' oppositions, league cup trophy in the cabinet, fab FA cup run.... but since the turn of the new year, cup runs aside, our form has been dismal to say the least. These Players...this Squad ..have let him done badly. These new signings may go on to better things, 'bed in' so to speak but they must look at themselves as professionals. I do think he could have reaped the benefits next season but it's a results driven business and Kenny knew that, it was etched on his face with every passing disaster, each hit off the post, each open chance missed. King Kenny resumed the throne when the club was in crisis, inspired a semi revival of confidence that must be built on. No doubt...still the legend he always was and always will be, he should be involved at the club somehow, boardroom level perhaps, who knows. We now know for sure that the new owners mean business, that in itself is a crumb of comfort from the Kings table

Kenny can be king for as long as he wants just as long as we never see his face as Liverpool manager ever again. The damage he has done is incalculable both in breaking up the great dynasty in the late 80’s early 90’s and in wasting the transfer fees and generally making a hash of it in 2011 including his embarrassing press conferences. I know how many of you think the sun shines out of his whatever and that’s fine get a poster of him (as a player) on your bedroom wall. Great great player very average manager at best, disaster at worst.

KMS and KP did you watch every game at Anfield and every away game from 1987 to 1992 ?
Bear in most of the games then were not televised. I agree the team of Barnes, Beardsley etc was the most entertaining Liverpool side ever but look at the start point and look at the backroom, Saunders, Evans Moran and look where we ended up. If you did attend those games and the final in 88 and villa park 1990 I would be interested to hear your views if not then you are assessing via wikapedia

Stanley... I agree that Kenny's first tenure was the beginning of the slide. Prior to Kenny, the team used to evolve gradually with one or two new faces, often unknown, coming in each season such that new teams were built over time without us really noticing.
The 87/88 team though was built on the splash the cash philosophy with Barnes,Beardsley,Houghton,Aldridge. That gave us short term success but it was the beginning of the end with subsequent signings not being of the same quality. Maybe the board made a mistake then - they should probably have appointed Roy Evans or Ronnie Moran as manager after Joe Fagan stepped down.
Having said all that though, I don't agree with the vicious tone of your comments about Dalglish. Whatever he did it was all done with the best of intentions, hence I don't hold it against him. If we as his own LFC family can't cut him a bit of slack and show him some respect in the language we use about him then that's really sad.

Fair enough he is gone now and thats what I wanted for the sake of the club and myself I was paying out £800 and not wanted to do it because I had no faith in him. But I do think he tried his best (but don't all managers?) but he will feel gutted now personally however £11m in the bank will help to smooth the pain. But its not about money with Kenny I am sure but it helps. Despite the events of this week I think he can hold his head high in club history still. Had he stayed next seaso I fear it would have got ugly and his reputation impacted so its all for the best
