Here's a post I made in October:

In addition it seems a large amount of the goals we've conceded have been due to Enrique not being used to playing with the left sided cb and lm, or being a bit tired from attacking all match as quite a lot of the goals conceded are created or taken on the left flank.

e.g Larsson goal -cross from left sunderland,
carra peno- played in behind the left flank -stoke,
Wolves goal from cross from the left flank -wolves,
Lastly Hernandez's goal from the original corner smalling broke in behind Enrique and Gerrard had to go awol to concede the origin corner which resulted in another corner leading to the goal-man utd

Food for thought certainly, but a fullback will never stop or intercept every ball, and all those goals had a second player also making a mistake (Flanagan ball-watching in the Sunderland game, Reina not defending at the near post in the FA Cup final, etc).

True but if Enrique had stopped his mistake in the first place the 2nd more important mistake wouldn't have happened like yesterday with Spearing misplacing his pass lead to enrique and then reinas mistake

Upcoming world class players IMO for 2014 WORLD CUP:
K-P Boateng, Gotze, Sturridge, Kroos, Lucas Leiva, Hummels, Kyriakos Papadopoulos,

I agree that mistakes cost goals, if that's what you're saying. For instance very few crosses get past Kelly, but on a day when Coates engaged a player too far from the back line Kelly couldn't cover in time and the cross came in and ultimately went in for an own goal off Skrtel. Is Kelly now a bad defender as well? The defence must work as a unit and it's impossible for a side to keep 38 clean sheets, so mistakes will be made. If Enrique cost us a mere handful of goals despite playing nearly every game in every competition I wouldn't consider that catastrophic. Were he doing that as often as Carragher this season then I'd worry.

They said that about Carroll, just like we said we were made up about Torres when he left.

Enrique is still (for me) a great signing relative to his price. For the first half of the season he was arguably the best left back in the league. 2nd half of the season he has progressively deteriorated but so have our results in general.

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique is a fine back four, I don't think he need to splash out on any first teamer there. Maybe a back up CB unless Coates kicks on.

Enrique has probably suffered from fatigue, very 1 dimensional tactics so defenders can cover him quite easily, and having Downing in front of him too often. Yes his defending has been poor recently (he has played himself out of a team of the season spot) but I think he will improve again under better tactics.

I hope your right but a big improvement is needed for me to have complete confidence overall in him, attacking and defensive wise

I will listen, only if your answer contains wisdom

Poor guy gives 110% every game. He needs a rest. Was our best player for good part of the season. Defenders don't win matches too often especially full backs. They can only lose matches for you and to be honest he has not lost us many compared to Carragher, Reina, Johnson and even Skrtel.

He needs to be rested as do a lot of our team. Hopefully with the summer off he will come back strong.
