He doesn't need replacing, just a position change, Right side of midfield for his quality delivery or maybe beside carra on the bench for a bit of motivation That's a good call. Rafa used to play him wide right or up front with Torres for the good of the team. If we get a creative midfielder, Lucas can be defensive midfielder, Downing left wing, Gerrard right side with Suarez and Carroll up front. Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique Gerrard Shelvey Lucas Downing Carroll Suarez

Seriously Gerrard needs to take an apprentice whom he can guide and maybe one day replace him. At the moment , if we do not go into the summer transfer market for a central midfielder then the only option is to take Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson under his guidance. Both have shown enough potential , for my eyes at least , to be playing in the Gerrard's role. The only problem at the moment is the high expectations of fans like us who expect immediate success. Maybe the pressure of stepping into Gerrard's shoe is too big at the moment. I would love to see how Shelvey and Henderson go for it after 1 full season and see how they can prove critics wrong like what Carroll did in the final. I admit that I am not a big fan of Carroll especially when knowing his transfer fee is far from what is quality is but he had proved that he can improve tremendously when given time and guidance. So if Carroll can make his critics eat their words , I believe that Henderson and Shelvey can too. Let their first full season pass by and see how they respond when they know that fans like us will be behind them supporting them as they progress...

But fans do want instant success or rather to see progress fairly quickly. Thats the world we live in today. Carroll did well yesterday but he has hardly made critics eat their words. We paid £35m for him an outrageous waste of money. I think Carroll might be a decent player for us but as a second choice striker. No club serious about champions league status would go into a season relying on Andy Carroll.

Providing he hasn't lost his form due to the extended time out, I think we'll see a vastly improved mid field next year which will inspire confidence throughout. GERRIN' THERE!

Carroll is starting to look like he might be the £20 million player that £35 million was paid for.
